Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Did you land?

For those laid off, it seems like the overall industry is doing better - did you land in a new role? How long did it take?

Chevron is hiring a lot it feels like, would you come back if you could?

Well said, the internet is wasteland. I suggest we all sign off immediately and not return. Shut off your computer NOW! NOW!

After daily searching for a petroleum related job for the last 3 years I am giving up. It is not that I dont have the qualifications (Double Bachelor degrees), 30 years working experiences in 4 major international oil companies, yet no oil companies bother to invite me for interview. I get it. I am 55 years old and that is the only reasons I don't get interview (a few job recruiters said my resume is excellent).

I started an O&G related service business with two close friends who also worked for a major oil company. We formed the business a couple of months after I was laid off in October 2015. We weathered the downturn and the business is doing very well. Chevron became our principal client in 2017 and they still provide us lots of work. As you can see, Chevron paid off for me as an employee for nearly 30 years. Now Chevron is paying off again for me and my two partners.

I was laid off in 2016, but have no need to work again. I was fortunate to have worked with Chevron for a fantastic 27 years. I don’t believe any other work or job could bring me close to the satisfaction I had in my career at CVX. Though I was laid off, it was at a time I was prepared and ready to retire on my own. Yes, I did search for work within the year following my forced retirement, but in that time of job searching, I came to the realization that retirement was for me and it was time to start enjoying life. Leaving Chevron was a bitter-sweet experience. The icing on the cake would have been if I had left on my own terms. That wasn’t the case, but at least I was compensated with a 1-year pay severance check and some other perks. Thanks, Chevron.

You could rename the entire oil industry after the movie 'No Country for Old Men'.

After retiring from Chevron after a 25 year career I in 2016, I would consider returning to the company on a limited contract assignment basis.
