ARASA is on its way out

ARASA is on its way out. Anybody else noticed the increase in managers in mechanical and the reduction of FG and foreman positions? Houston shops, Settegast and Englewood, used to have 2 FGs and 2 foreman per shift. Last year Settegast went down to 1 FG per shift. Earlier this year we lost the relief foreman jobs and created split shift foreman jobs. And last week we went to a single foreman at each location per shift. All the while manger numbers have increased. The managers are taking on more and more of Foreman and FG duties. ARASA will be gone completely within a year. They already have leadmen for each craft come in an hour early to line up electricians and machinists on the locomotives for the foreman for the next shift.

Just go to ARASA lodge 5101 website or Facebook if you think it’s a fairy tale. They’re fighting for their survival on 1/27, but the railroad generally does whatever they want to and then pays whatever their courts decide on after all appeals are exhausted. Existing foremen might end up getting foremen wages for craft work until they retire, depending on which agreement they’re part of, but the agreement supervisor position is probably going away this month.

We have 9 supervisors and 9 FG positions left in Houston. Last year there were 18 FGs and 19 Foreman...tell me again about the “fairy tale”.

If the work at your facility is still getting done with half the Fg and Formen it only proves that they had excess of overhead at that particular location. It doesn’t mean they are getting rid of ARASA as a whole.

The company hates foremen! No added value by having them. In fact, the entire company will most likely rely on the mechanical personnel to just take care of everything. That’s what ILP is for.

No, their shift hours start an hour early. 06-14, 14-22, 22-06.

Do the lead men who come in an hour early get paid overtime for that hour.
