Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

I've worked for Lowes for 20 years

I've worked for Lowe's for 20 years now and my time is done here. When I started it was rare to have an opening at my store and everyone at my store had 5 years plus experience. The store was filled with excitement, team work, hard work and we had fun. Now there is so much turn over I cant recognize an employee from day to day. The excitement, team work, hard work and fun is gone. Also gone is the loyalty for Lowes. When I started my family, friends, and even neighbors would not shop anywhere else but Lowes (or they would not tell me). Now they are forced to go elsewhere with Lowes prices, inventory and customer service. Lowes is a ghost town. I'm not sure how much longer they can go like this. Good bye Lowe's. Good bye retail. Good Luck everyone.

I left too. Found another job with better pay, better benefits AND my mindset is already more positive. I unfortunately drank the kool-aid and I'm now going thru withdrawl. It shouldn't take long to recover. I wasn't with lowes for long as y'all, but I saw almost immediately upon hire that this was no ordinary retailer. It was a joke. A-- kissers weren't held accountable. Brown nosers were talked about. Hard workers were left alone. They were why the store functioned. Fat bearded managers sat in offices eating all day. Wide arsed women walked around gossiping all day. I worked hard thinking I would make a difference. Nope. Just ended up doing the work of others. They were happy. The work was being done one way or another. When I brought issues up to managers, I was told what they felt I needed to hear. Nothing was ever done on their part. I had to learn the hard way, but I learned. It's too bad that the content employee, whether you've been there 20 years or 1 year, feels this is a primo job. It's not. It's not the way successful companies are run. Most of these employees wouldn't last in another work environment. Better yourselves and work with real leaders, not just a manager.

Good luck to you. After 15 years myself I commend you on staying so long. This was a good company to be with in the beginning. Sad how greed takes hold. To the person that was an a--hole below, you will get yours. Come back here after a few months and let us know how your job is... better get used to pushing carts and kissing a--.

I left a year ago after putting in my 20yrs. and have not regretted it one bit. I miss the people I worked with but not the changes the company was making. It didn't make sense to let so much knowledge walk out the door but that was the direction the company was taking and that's why the company is struggles nown. It's fine to fill part time work with retail companies like Kroger's, Target, Walmart and so on, but when your dealing with retail that has to add advice and knowledge to the product they are selling, it's just not the same with filling holes with someone that doesn't have that knowledge and at best all they can do is point were the product is and load the product on a cart. It takes years to learn what all a customer needs in a project and to make sure they are installing it correctly. I do believe down the road to the comment "Don't let the door hit ya'where the good Lord split ya'" will be the end result to the person that posted it. And the person leaving after 20yrs.! Good luck and the grass is greener on the other side because it was for me and I am still in retail. I told a friend that left after I did that if the grass you are standing on in your heart is already dead then it's best to find something greener on the other side. Also I agree with you when it comes to Lowe's being an awesome company 20yrs. ago because it was. I wish I could say same now .

Bon voyage and good luck in what you have ahead.

20 years is 4 lifetimes in retail, I'm at 16 so far.

We have one poor soul in our store who is over 25 years.

Good luck to you too, I’m looking to leave as well and will as soon as I find a job to match my rate at Lowe’s. Sorry, not starting over at $10.00/hour.
