Former UP engineer who worked in design for UP...what little they had left before they demolished that too.
Anyway, for a fact, the Brazos Yard Project Phase II is definitely gone. Phase I, which is under construction, is being re-designed and will be half the size of what it was originally designed to be.
So Brazos will be there, but half of what it should be.
By the way, Brazos Phase I and II could have easily been built and were certainly required because of the long standing congestion problems in Houston which impact the rest of Texas. UPRR has been running on the same legacy yards from SP and MoPAC days that were built from the 20s to the 50s. Since then, Texas and the south of the US have boomed tremendously.

The more I see this, the more I think maybe the railroads should have all been nationalized in the 70s. We're running a transportation system in the U.S. that is disjointed and wholly inadequate when compared to our number one competitor, mainland China.
Texas needs commuter rail, intercity rail, and more freight rail capacity. It also needs private railroads to cooperate fully with local and state governments in order to build more highways.
Instead, UPRR, Captain America itself, is a greedy, short sighted, POS company that under-invests in capital improvement projects, does not cooperate well with state and local entities and of course, could care less about the big picture need for commuter and inter-city rail in what is becoming America's largest state when the SOB's own most rail corridors in Texas.
Don't worry, across the Pacific, they have built the longest highspeed rail system in the world in about 10 years; all highways are tolled and fairly self sufficient; there is no war on hump-yards or other asinine endeavors; and they are pushing billions of dollars to get more truck cargo onto railroad tracks.
No it's not, another false narrative.
Wouldn't be surprised.
Weird so where do I go work tomorrow
