Background Checks at Chevron

As a sophomore petroleum engineering student wondering about future job opportunities, how are strict are criminal background checks for field engineers at Chevron? I have an arrest record and a dismissed class A misdemeanor, no conviction, for a fight. Wondering if it's worth the $2k for me to get it expunged.

1zmn, You are the classic example of someone who has a burning desire to find someone else to blame for you own shortcomings. It's very sad that you are incapable of standing up for yourself and you are a coward. This anonymous site is a good place for you. A safe place where you can vent and you don't get the $hit slapped out of you like you usually would get for being yourself, rightfully so, administered by others that you irritate just for being you and making false accusations against people to further your own agenda without actually working for any thing in life.

Good Lord people, really? Sad to tie this post to others totally not related. To the poster, yes, pay the money and get it expunged or removed if at all possible. Best investment you'll make with $2k. Well worth the return.

Depends on the circumstances. Were you drunk or high? Did the other guy (or gal) deserve it? Was it rolling around on the ground type fighting or merely hair pulling?

Izmn - you seem very bitter. How long ago were you layed off? Isn’t it time to let it go?

If you've practiced bullying and persecution and can demonstrate a commitment to targeting people at work and working with others in victimizing them, your past record will be ignored. Chevron is all about ensuring someone else pays for what you've done to them. The PMP process pits you against others, so make sure you get someone targeted and driven lower and you'll l be fine. They won't care about any brushes with the law.

Very strict. Anything inside 7 years is in play. One option, if you get the the offer in writing, is to call HR and give them a heads up. But be ready to get grilled. How has your behavior changed. And why has it changed? How can you demonstate the change? Chevron hires 90% based on past behaviors, regardless of grades. The mantra is past behavior is the best indicator of future behavior.
