Pause and Sit Railroading (PSR)?

I see trains sitting still all the time on the Omaha sub now. Today, I saw 2 intermodal sitting south of I-80 at the same time, an auto train sitting on the Missouri River bridge, and routinely see them sitting on the bridge over 144th Street. Then there are the ones sitting in elkhorn. Out of all the UP trains I’ve seen the last week, one was actually moving.

Maybe I need to get a life....

cruddy weather in the Wintertime??? Wow never would have imagined that could happen. Maybe we should have held on to a couple extra motors and a couple extra people to help out. No.....how silly of me.

Old man winter is giving U.P. the big F.U.

Lol.

This is true. We have been tying trains down or recrewing them to sit and barely move. The weather is playing a huge factor in this and filling our pockets with money. Even though we won't have a chance to spend it we are working so much. It's going to snow again this weekend in the midwest and this will continue into the near future.

It’s bad I work out there and since this all started I have put in a lot more hours for no more pay. A train will pick up or set out a handful of cars in a siding or yard and then all the trains behind the working train are stopped and required to wait for long periods of time while waiting for work to get done. Also these trains are too big for the power that is provided to get trains from point A to B in a timely manner. I’m really surprised the customers aren’t freaking out because it seems like things aren’t moving very fast here lately.

Some of that could be weather related. At least partly to blame.

Yep, this is something you're going to get used to seeing a lot. I took a trip to Nashville (big CSX hub) not too long ago, and there were train cars piled up, double-high, on many of the tracks, all over the city.
