Laid Off Employees Barred From Returning?

I've applied to over 10 different similar positions which I'm overly qualified for. So far, all rejection emails, not even a phone interview or a call from the recruiter. I have my two prior supervisors even recommending me and my prior performance ratings were always achieves or exceeds. Just wondering if anyone knew for sure if there is some sort of ban on re-hiring laid off employees?

Trust me, I'm trying to find outside employment, but I was hoping to still be able to get back to a similar role at BNYM as a back-up plan. Anyone else finding it difficult to get an interview? Any success stories?

I'm not aware of this policy. I as laid off a few years ago and then rehired 12 weeks later. Others have been also. Do you have a source for this information?

It is due to the company policy that explicitly says that laid-off employees cannot ever be re-hired.

How long has it been? It may be too soon. I’m actually getting messages from recruiters, and have been getting them since I hit the one year mark. Three to be exact. Granted, I’m working somewhere else now, so I passed on the first two interviews. I took the third interview just to see what could happen, and it would be a promotion.

@pmw: I agree about BNY filling jobs regardless of qualification. I had no choice, but I know that I am not qualified for the job they just gave me.

jobs may be posted for posterity, but already filled with an internal candidate or someone the recruiter or manager previously decided to hire.

Managers are trying hard to hold onto their staff because if someone transfers then they may lose the ability to fill their vacancy. They are filling any open jobs as quickly as they can, doesn't matter if the person is qualified or not.

I’ve always found the bank would rather rehire you than continue to pay a package. In my old group we laid off 3 people, one came back at a lower grade and 2 went to other internal groups within 6 months. Maybe you would cost too much or not have long term viability in a lower grade position in their view?

Call HR and ask: 1 (800) 947-HR4U

Alert: Maybe they were hit by layoffs, too. Recently, they know nothing and say, go my MyHR on intranet and submit a ticket. You can just say you have no access to HR. Or maybe get one of your BNY contacts to ask the question for you.

If you were laid off, why would you necessarily want to come work here? Applying for jobs you are over-qualified for probably gets a rejection because they don't want to have to over pay for the job. Thirdly if you got a severance or SUB, it may indicate in the agreement that you cannot reapply within a certain time frame.
