Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

BNY has the worst job descriptions ever.

Browsing LinkedIn and saw a couple BNY jobs. They still print nothing but the boilerplate HR job description for “ leave application support analyst“ or whatever the title is , with never any indication of what the job actually is, or what skills are required. I was in a discussion with people on my source social about this three years ago, and everyone agreed it was pretty useless, and it still hasn’t changed.

How hard is it to actually have a job description that says what you would be doing if you applied? Honestly, these people....

A year ago, when our job descriptions changed, was the first breach of contract which occurred. Well, in the UK in anyway. Read carefully how certain words were deleted- Manage, Strategy, Innovate, Leadership etc. Our JD;s were levelled with India JD's. Never mind the fact that we still performing our previous roles - leading, managing strategising and innovating, - we were from that point on just glorified admin functions in their books. Too low-level to keep and the culling commenced. The slide of hand went so smoothly that no-one noticed that we got f*^"ed a year ago...

They are the worst..as a hiring manager, the descriptions they provide have nothing to do with the job available. Requirements and tasks are completely wrong. Based on the descriptions, I wouldn't even apply for a position currently open in my team because it reads as I'm underqualified for it

If you're already there and you want to move laterally, you still can't tell what the job is for. There's just no information.

Its a good way to keep the job reqs in your pocket so the only people to apply are the ones you want, is what I think.
