Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Would you really go back to UP?

I see people wondering if any of the laid off employees will be returned to work at any point, and I gotta ask - why would you want to? UP has proven to be a horrible place to work - no job security, horrible working environment, no way to get ahead...

If you are already out, why would you want to come back to that? Job market can't be that bad...

I was laid off in November and assuming the separation agreement is correct, I can’t come back even if I wanted to. After the year is up I assume that I could, but I’d have to echo everyone else here in saying that I would not go back. Of course I’m in my mid 50s with over 30 years so I’m good to go for retirement later. But even if they called today, I’d have to say no. I’m not upset with them because they gave me a good living for over 30 years, but it’s time to move on.

why would anyone want to work for Union Pacific period? Why are there still employees there at all? Desperate times call for desperate measures. Everyone’s situation is different. Some people are in a financial bind. Some people aren’t qualified to work anywhere else. Some people have convinced themselves they’ll be the next ceo one day.

Having said that I got the f out and don’t regret it for a second. They didn’t have to fire me I told them to take this job and shove it.

Been laid off twice at UP. First time was 2015 with the PTC extension. 2nd time just recently.

I ended up getting a better job with more money, matching 401k, medical about the same, and potential for growth. I don't have to worry about MAPS, FTX, EPE or any of the other stupid things that UP does to harrass you. I am valued for the skills and knowledge I bring to the company. So, in a nutshell, there is no way in hell I would return. It's a shame. UP lost a lot of great talent where I worked but it's their loss. I don't think very many people where I worked would return either. There are too many great jobs out there.

No.

If you would go back, you have stockholm syndrome.

I left up years ago and been happy ever since with no regrets. I look at this page to chuckle at what my brothers put up with.
