I take umbrage at that. I have been in this business over 40 years and have a degree in History.

I've seen a lot of "principle" engineers... and that's in their own signature. So...
One of them's got it on their linked in page and they are interviewing outside.
Someone should tell them about it, otherwise, they will never find a job and leave.
It's like a big glaring sign advertising they don't know what they are doing.
The "architects" are desperately copying from each other.

Well, if you're an "architect" you can't write code, can you. That's for the "little people".
Some people are promoted, so they don't have to do work anymore, or at least they think so.

The reason for this is to to Oracles pay rise policy.
Say you have a talented software engineer who is vastly underpaid for their skill set. Their managers will never be allowed to give them a 30% pay rise so the only other option is to give them a promotion to Senior Engineer. With this promotion they will be boosted up into the Senior pay scale but will likely be on the lower end of the Senior skillset and pay scale.
The fast forward another few years and the same engineer who is now a competent Senior engineer is again vastly underpaid for a Senior engineer and the manager wont be allowed to give a significant pay rise are forced into giving an unnecessary promotion in order to keep a valued member of staff.
And this is relevant in a lay off forum because...

Architects protecting their turf, and not letting new tech adopted is another problem. Unfortunately, they are protected by management and VP

I completely understand. I have worked with "architects" like this at Oracle.
People's jobs are on the line and con artists get promoted to architect!!
I don't know how some of these people get promoted into architect. More of the reason why Oracle is going down the tubes. So much corruption with promotions.
