Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

To take or not to take, that is the question!

I have 28 1/2 years with VZ and I'm 50, take a buyout with an extra kicker or make 500K over the next 4 years? I've had enough with VZ but I can handle it till the end of contract. I think most people feel the same.

I would probably not take the offer at this time if I were you. If the special EISP was offered to you, you would get $50k in a lump sum, and $56k for your years of service for a total $106k. If you decide to take the $56k over a four year period you would get $1166 per month. After taxes your initial $50k lump sum would clear somewhere in the $30k range.

Once you retire, no more company 6% match, no more OT, no more other bonuses.

If you really hate working then take it, otherwise you would make far more by working and will be closer to Social Security age.

Just wait and be prepared to leave upon the offer. Do not punk out when it comes to be take it and run. A real tragedy would be the inability to escape with the kicker because of poor planning. I am just biding time myself and more than ready. I am sure there are many like you and I.

Take it. Wake up people. How many companies will throw that kind of money at you?

They have to offer a buyout before you can decide whether or not to take it.
