Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

nike is just a job now

Gone are the days when Nike was a family. We are all waiting to get laid off or contracted out or stepped on or pushed aside for someone less qualified with connecs. At least we got the good job benefits ( for now)

Agree with all of these comments! 7kwi you give me hope as I look for where to work next. Curious if you switched industries, as I fear more of the same in similar companies.

I left Nike for these very reasons. What I’ll say to you still there is: don’t fear stepping outside the berm. Once I joined my new company, I realized what I had been missing at the swoosh: a truly collaborative, constructive culture. And, my total comp is much, much higher now.

You may find, as I have, that you’re much more valued by post-Nike employers than you are at Nike. Don’t fear real change.

Very good and accurate comments here but this one is right in the money, by @XYVeIzf-7lis:

“Nike will not change. It will go bust before it changes and that will take a long time. The place is ahead of its time in terms of rotten politics in a good brand wrapper.”

Nike is a company. CFE, MAXIMS, ER etc are there just for show. What matters are: Earnings per share, Stock options and promotions. The company hasn't changed but ... probably you have! Most folks that join want to do the right thing for company and the people. It takes time to figure out it is all a story. And Nike is very good at telling stories that are not true (there is another word for that) but people want to believe. Here's your choice: Stay and make the most of it, be relentless and make a career -or- leave if what you want is not there and go do it what you really like to do. Nike will not change. It will go bust before it changes and that will take a long time. The place is ahead of its time in terms of rotten politics in a good brand wrapper. You only live once and when you are selling your days to a company and money is not your (only) thing then find your tru passion somewhere else.

Well put 2-dkb. No sense in bleeding for the company anymore... They sure as hell won't bleed for you. Sadly, the current crew of employees has inherited a complex machine with no real knowledge of how to get things done. Leave the mismanagement and the bullies behind and use your experience at Nike to move on to better things.... there are plenty of them out there.

Don’t agree. Nike is a premium job that most people would love. However it isn’t even close to what it was as recently as 2015. The culture shifted noticeably.

Employees are no longer the heart of Nike. Eventually you will be replaced. It is a company like the maxim says. And companies care about the bottom line.

So use Nike. Learn from it. Take advantage of the career growth, opportunities and relationships. Work hard.

Work is reciprocal so squeeze everything out of the swoosh. Then get out before you are pushed out.

Becuase eventually politics will get you. And if they don’t your gray hair will. You are just one poor career move choice or bad leader away from it now.
