Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

If you got laid off, you are the envy of those “left behind”...

I once thought being laid off would be the worst... rejected, hopeless, depressed.

But I wasn’t so now I must deal with reorganization into a group of “miscellaneous” workers. Our new manager has no idea what we do, and he must continue his old work while managing us... in ten percent of his time. This is our reward for “surviving” a lay off.

At this point I think that many are looking for other jobs and would even welcome a lay off, which ever comes first. But it would be helpful to have time to clear our heads of this misery before we move on.

Good luck EVERY ONE

CEO announced the new manager and team quotas, but it was our local management that did such a poor job assembling the new teams. It may have been challenging, making larger teams of miscellaneous workers, but having the managers keep their former jobs too isn’t fair to the managers or their teams. This is lose/lose all around.

Maybe the CEO intended improved organization without really thinking it through, or assumed that his staff could pull it off. Maybe they are hoping that things will settle down when we get used to the changes. Or maybe they are just magical thinkers.

Meanwhile, we suffer. Sounds productive, right?

Pittsburgh is a tougher job market right now at least. I'm not aware of anyone getting new employment yet from my group that got cut Jan 14/15.

I had a great job that I loved, working on a great product with great people here at BNY. I may be delusional hoping that will return. I wonder how many people are just shell shocked. No way I expected it to get so bad, so fast. Thank you for the HOPE and best wishes for your future!

I’ve been thinking that getting a new job will be much less disruptive than staying at BNY that has been so disruptive. Good luck to us all!

Well said! I've actually been applying to jobs and I have now reached the post interview, reference checking stage at a large employer here in Massachusetts. The layoffs and constant department reorganization at my location has been horrible. I was moved to a group where I have no experience in their line of work. The manager in my group was also pulled over to my group after her group was merged with another. She was facing either being laid off or moved to another group. It's very frustrating and I received no training at all to be able to handle my new group. It's an absolute mess and I'm just looking to get out as soon as possible. I was very honest with the company I interviewed with about my reasons for wanting to leave, and they were actually very sympathetic and horrified at what I was telling them about BNYM. I just want to post this, not to pat my own back or toot my own horn, but I posted this comment to show all of you reading this that you DO HAVE options. You do NOT have to wait for bnym to lay you off! There are jobs and sane functional companies out there! Thankfully I live in an area in Massachusetts where there are plenty of huge companies around and plenty of options. The dysfunctional culture at BNYM has Warped our thinking. A friend of mine actually likened it to being in an abusive relationship. It's a pretty sad statement that we are actually begging to be laid off. And I'm not judging anyone here, because I feel the same way. However, I'm taking the reins and taking control of my own life and I am going to go out there and seek out other employment elsewhere. Please, no job is worth your physical or mental health. My physical and mental health has declined very sharply over the last year or two as a result of bny Mellon. I sincerely wish all of you the best of luck. I'm sending positive thoughts your way. We all need it!

You can hand in your resignation anytime. Most ex BONY'ers aren't having any problems finding jobs.
