Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Unemployment Insurance.

Looking for feedback please. Has anyone out there like myself (who was laid) off tried to get Unemployment Insurance and been denied? The reason you were denied was specifically because BNY Mellon informed the Department of Labor that you received a severance package instead of a SUB package. I look forward to your response.

I wouldn't wait for a hearing. Contact Dean Anderson or Joshua Wyrostek and have them figure out how to send have the correct info sent. Their numbers are in your separation document.

Unemployment while on SUB is driven by state rules. Some states allow it, some don't.

Why would you not do a rollover?

A side note on 401(k) ... I, too, wanted as far away and as fast. Unless you do a direct rollover, penalties apply. Unless you have a lot of extra cash hanging around that might not be an option. Voya pushed me to keep the $$$ in. I pushed to cash out. Then they offered quarterly payments. Still penalized, but at least it led to a (false) sense of "income."

It is basically what I did. Unfortunately, because I was denied, whatever I sent them (online with attachments) is for the purposes of requesting a hearing to reopen my claim. I might have to attend some hearing God knows where to get this resolved. More ineptness from BNY Mellon leads to an unnecessary inconvenience for me. My disgust level with this horrific company keeps growing. Thanks for your reply.

There should be a letter in your packet from TMS to unemployment in case you get denied. It basically says you are receiving SUB and are qualified to collect unemployment insurance. If they denied you can send them the letter

I live in New York state. The reason I was denied is because BNY Mellon informed the Labor Department that I received a Severance package instead of SUB. The representative told me if BNY Mellon had given them the proper information about SUB, I would not have been denied. I was just wondering if what happened to me in this exact manner happened to anyone else. Thanks.

I am so getting my 401K plan out of that dump. I don't want to have any associations with that place ever again. I am meeting with a broker at the end of the month and that will be that. Good riddance forever to this crumbling company. I just hope they know if they think any of us who were laid off are suffering, we are not. My hope is that it is them who are suffering ( the people responsible for the demise of this company).

When sending you SUB package back send it registered mail- UPS, FEDEX. That way you have receipt who signed for it. Wait until you have to deal with BNYM/Voya getting your 401k to another broker. They are stuck on stupid. That is the route that BNYM is going down. Luck to all. We all have better things coming our way.

When I sent in my signed forms to receive SUB pay, I never heard anything back. Turns out they lost my forms. I had to redo them then I hand delivered them to the bank.

Then, I never received the items from my desk. Again, I had to follow-up with HR to have someone pack the items up.

Then what they told you is wrong. Did you speak with a representative at the Department of Labor? SUB (Supplemental Unemployment Benefit) is not the same as Severance Pay. The representative I spoke to said they received information from BNY Mellon that I was getting a Severance Pay. She said if I am receiving SUB then I can apply & receive unemployment. I have to request what is known as a hearing to resolve the issue. I would look into this if I were you. Somewhere along the way something is not right (either on BNY Mellon's part or the Department of Labor's part). Thanks for your response.

I applied but have been denied due to the SUB payments. To them, SUB and severance are the same - payments. Was told that I would be able to get unemployment payments once SUB ended. However, I know someone who was laid off the same time is getting both SUB and unemployment payments. We applied the same time and answered the application questions the same way. Not sure how they would explain that.

Thanks for your reply. I did apply successfully but was informed by the Department of Labor I was rejected because BNY Mellon gave them the wrong information. They told them I got a severance package (which was not correct) thus I was rejected. I am just wondering if the same thing happened to someone else.

Not received yet, but applied successfully. Maybe you didn't select 'lack of work' (as funny as this may sound at current BNYM environment) as a termination reason?

I received SUB (therefore was eligible to file for Unemployment Insurance). However, the Labor Department rejected my claim because they informed me that the Bank of New York Mellon told them I got a severance package (which is incorrect) thus making me not eligible. I am looking to see if this happened to anyone else. Thanks.

Did you receive severance? Or did you receive SUB? they are two different things. If you don't know, ask HR, not here.
