Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Use Your Vacation Time!!

Once you get laid off, your 2019 vacation days are worthless. Therefore, if your management tells you that you must be in the office the week of February 4th, you might just as well take 9 or 10 days of vacation between now and then (MLK Day will save one). Wouldn't it be funny if EVERYONE took next week off? Like a salaried Mass Vacation!

Actually you can get payment for vacation days which are used(scheduled) but you would not get the chance to take due to leaving before those days.

Not sure about severance, but I resigned and the policy is that vacation time does not accrue and you do not get payment for unused vacation days. So if you use all your time for the year now but get laid off, GM will not garnish your wages. Not sure what they will do about unused vacation days in the case of layoffs, but I assume it will probably be the same as the resignation policy.

Go read the HR information on vacation. It's all available at the beginning of the year and does not accrue. You will lose any you don't use by end of the year or when you leave GM.

I just fill in my 40 hour time cards and submit them later on to bypass vacation days and the bait "unlimited" sick days.

I wouldn't count on unused vacation days being paid out. Be rational though. Most of you will still have a job here after layoffs and would probably regret using vacation now. Use a couple days if you must.

What is the vacation days per month accrued? Does anyone know?

You will be paid for unused vacation (up to the amount that you are allowed to accumulate), you will not however be able to receive more vacation than you are due.

It's true vacation days are accrued. But we also have "unlimited" sick. Take a sick day or two to help yourself mentally. We all know nothing is getting done in the office, anyways.

Vacation is accrued on a quarterly basis. If you take more than you've earned you must pay GM back. They will garanish your wages. Get real here. Your suggestion is totally irrational.

I'm not sure if unused vacation days are somehow compensated as an addition to the severance package?
