Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Personal Housekeeping

From what I have heard, your PC access is the first thing that is deactivated....... Its a good idea to offload any personal documents from your workstation to your personal machine. And don't forget to backup your contacts..... I'm going to be getting my affairs in order tomorrow.

Also, you should update any websites that use your work email versus your personal email. For instance, 401K, HSA, UP credit union, etc. I had a nightmare closing my HSA account after I was laid off because it was attached to my UP work email and I never set up any security questions. I had to mail them a written request and get it notarized.

IT Manager here. Yes we can check what goes in and out of IBM Notes. No, we do not do it on a regular basis unless there has been a violation of law, ethics, confidential documents, etc. Downloading work samples, old TPT (you created those items), human factor files isn’t against policy unless you try to sell them or they are trade secret / confidential. We are not rifling through everyones email file attachements.

For those copying files, be aware that UPRR can and will see everything you do. I had an employee quit. He was a less than desirable employee and MGMT was able to see what he emailed to himself and others as well as what he pulled down for a flashdrive. They will check so be on the up and up.

Makes sure to download your personnel file and learning history. There are various systems to do this, email a copy to yourself for a record of all your training and accomplishments. Reference old TPT if necessary.

They didn’t shut off anything for me the day if. Trust me they know who they are letting go well ahead of telling you. They tap you on the shoulder, ask you to grab what you can and follow along to a conference room. You are read a statement, ask for any company credit cards, access cards, etc. they then obtain personal info to mail documents to you. They have a courier deliver what you did not grab. Be sure you know your hire date and up employee number. You will need it later. Call the staffing service ASAP. Get Medical coverage set up if you need. The penalty for not having coverage is gone for filing next year is gone. So you can get just the basic disaster coverage if you need a short term bridge. You’ll be fine. You’ll be happier. You will be wiser. Hang in there.

Also start bringing home the personal things in your desk. They do not give you any time to pack your desk. Your boss does it and they send it to you.

Yes, anything personal, copy to a flash drive. I was layed off in October (never dreamed it would happen to me) and lost so much personal information. And, I had so many things tied to my work email since I had been there so long. Still trying to change everything.

Yep, any work you want to take examples of, things written for samples while interviewing, business cards to prove your title, personal stuff put it all on your own flash drive or email copies to yourself. It’s a big help later
