Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

The media simply isn’t interested in BNYM layoffs

I don't want to be taken like I;m cheer leading for the company or defending the cause I’m not, but my thoughts are that there was no big plot or even any special effort to cover up the layoffs. This is a sad thing and a good example of the society that we live in. Sure that the company wants to keep things like this inside as much as they can, but there was no big conspiracy, and the lack off media coverage of the layoffs was a product of a lack of interest by the media on the matter. Whoever wanted to see was one Google search away from finding out that something is cooking. Sadly, mass layoffs are experienced by the public as something normal and it doesn’t represent big news anymore

I work on the investment/custody side and the layoffs were big news this week in the trade publications.

I bet the number of people in India who have heard of BNYM doesn't approach 0.0001%

I think the Pitts papers consider it newsworthy because of the history and that BNYM is still a significant employer in the city. Same in NYC. Everywhere else most people have never heard of BNYM. India may have a different experience as I think they are a well known employer all over the region.

The world at large has no general awareness of BNYM. If you don't have assets there, it may as well not exist.

Agreed. I was let go Monday and was curious about that as well. Seems to be a couple of small postings from the Pittsburgh papers. Actually a useful exercise on this web site is to take a look at some of the other companies, particularly other financial companies, IBM and some other big guys, and you'll see pretty much the same sorts of stuff going on.
