Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Has anyone been promotions lately!

I have wondered if promotions are happening in oracle. I see them bringing in people from Microsoft and other areas, but I have not seen an internal promotion in almost a year. I have heard of people saying they were in line for a promotion for 6 months or more. Does anyone have the scoop?

Oracle Consulting will not promote unless it's bringing folks in from India or promoting junior leads.
They will only bring in ex- Accenture employees.

Former employee that was laid off, My former Senior Director when asked about raises and promotions told us that if we wanted either we would have to leave. Also told as when asked about training to read a book.

I know a couple of lying scumbags who were promoted to architect because they were running a scam where they were claiming credit for work other people did. That's the kind of people I've seen promoted.

I've been in Oracle for 20 yers now. I think it all depens on management style. I have never been promoted or got a raise with bad managers because I have never aligned to them. but I had the luck to have two very good managers, that worked to valorize my daily work - not because they were generous but because they were convinced that was the best way to valorize their own work. with them I got promotions and raises, even a big one when I become IC6 last year. unfortunately those managers are gone, the current one is a just a spreadheet man, only trying to expose himself and trying to hide my work because he is scared by the fact I'm frequently requested by sales team to support them. I'm over 50 now and unfortunately in my country there is no job available for SC over 50, so I'm stuck in Oracle, but surely I would like o leave.

Been at ORCL for 15 years and I'm an IC (now). I chose to move out of management because I couldn't stand lying to my team and misleading them that there was a opportunity to move ahead and get any pay increases. I was an M4 and was told by my immediate management who to "promote" and when. To be very clear - there are very few promotions that have a title change AND base pay raise. 95% of the title changes are in name only, there is no change in pay and that's very deliberate. It has absolutely nothing to do with the skills, efforts, education or contributions of the person - it is 100% management perception of your "willingness to support the current regime" and if you're "hooked up" with higher management. So all the hard working people with the altruistic views of contributing to the good of the company - you're not going to get rewarded. Not here in this company with this "leadership". So if that's important to you, you need to find another company that will give you the promotions and pay you deserve. Don't wait it out here - it will never happen.

''maybe its because you've been worn down from years''

Exactly, this was the mentality of my manager. To get himself promoted on the shoulders of hard working people. The result? He got promoted but the hard working people left without looking back.

What has now the company? A bad manager with higher decision power and tens of years of experience and hard working people missing. A real success story for every company

managers get promoted do they? well, not always. good managers with great teams get passed over in favor of friends of the VP and just stay doing the same job for years continually told that good things will happen and that people will be assigned and things will be restructured and responsibilities added - and nothing materializes. year after year. then you just give up worrying about it and realize that a promotion is pointless. IC's get promoted if they actually contribute. don't come to me expecting a promotion just because you've been around for a long time when you've done nothing to set yourself apart and barely do your job anyway. maybe its because you've been worn down from years when there is no promotions done for anyone and even when there is there is no money and there's actually no change in the jobs anyway. and does a manager really want a promotion and to get one step closer to that mo--n VP anyway?

Oracle is not a place where management aka the 3 stooges care about employees’ careers. This whole “promotion” thing is a red herring - completely and totally irrelevant to what’s happening at oracle today. And with ongoing, rolling layoffs and now a hiring freeze, whatever you do do NOT stick around for a potential promotion. That would be dumb to the point of being s---c-dal from a career perspective. Go somewhere else and have a great career there!

Don't wish for a promotion. They just change your title but no $$$ associated with it! Then during the raise, you get a measly 1% raise. Figure that out.

Promotions at Oracle -- the common theme here is 'my manager was promoted'. I get it. I spent a long time at Oracle. Laid off back in 2017.

Once in a while, they will throw the individual contributors a bone and promote one person on the team (very rare). Managers take care of managers....they are the only ones that get promoted at Oracle. BTW -- My Senior Director was promoted to VP several years ago. I congratulated him on the promotion. I asked when I was going to get promoted. He told me there was no budget for it and there was a FREEZE on promotions within the LOB. The next month his boss was promoted. ......

Promotions are oracle are completely meaningless as they don’t increase your comp, just give you more to do.
