Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Nobody cares about these layoffs

There is exactly ZERO news coverage of the layoffs that have been happening at Union Pacific throughout the entire week. I can't find one single site talking about it.

Everybody is talking about the earnings report, however, and how great the quarter is expected to be for the company. How is that for irony? "Great quarter, let's see it off with more layoffs!"

Truly despicable.

When you’re a quasi-monopoly, with customers that need you and have few options, you can screw the customers and employees and still send wads of cash to the sharks on Wall Street, while making a fortune for you and your buddies along the way. Nothing to see here. Standard corporate American greed with no eye beyond next quarter.....

Why would it? Why would it make news? This isnt anything that any and every company hasnt been doing for the last century. Ive been with the railroad, for the last 5 years and the olny guys that are freaking out are the railroad guys. I personally thing they have pigeon holed theor own life and work mindset into thinking that anyone ever gave a sh-- about thier welfare. Ive got over 20 yeaea in my trade as a union electrician and this honeatly isnt anything new...so theres no reason it is news worthy. Weathwr your a machinist, sparky, mso, or anyone in the yard...believe me, there is life before and after the "almighty" rr. Just go to work, get paid, when they lay you off, take your things and go get paid elsewhere. Its not rocket science. In the meantime, I'm gonna soak up some more easy rr money...peace brothers

Have you written to your congresscritter and requested that the STB investigate PR at the UP? Did you mention that it may be time to reexamine the Staggers Act? Have you written to your state reps asking the same thing?

Safety First? There has to be concern.

The unions should be hitting local and national news outlets. Explaining what is going on and the potential disruption of service to customers not to mention very real safety concerns for the communities in which there is a railyard, with corners being cut. The Union should be all over the news about this but I've seen nothing.
