Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Las Vegas

It’s hard to imagine for a down to earth person with common sense to see a company cut multiple positions and thousands of employees to put on a meeting and spend millions in Vegas. Especially in this day and age of technology but I forgot Lowe’s doesn’t have this. At least the store managers get a chance to get out of their hiding spots.

The vendors aren't literally paying for the vneue and payroll to set things up. That would be dumb. They pay for tables and other advertising. It's a lot like pharmaceutical companies sending reps to shower doctors with goodies. They want to get in front of all those store managers and District Managers with their new products and hope it buys them better placement in stores or larger orders. Vendors WANT to do the vegas meetings. It's advertisement and marketing like any other.

If the vendors couldn't do the vegas meetings, they'd have to pay way more for additional field reps to visit stores all year long. There is no scenario where the manufacturers and vendors stop trying to market their products and instead just give us a lower cost. Not going to happen.

They don't want the vendors to see what they really do in Vegas so that is why they do not have vendors sponsoring it.

HD does it’s annual meeting in in Vegas as well. Big difference is much of it is paid by vendors showing off their new products. Not sure why we don’t do the same.

Vendors would charge us less if they didn’t need to pay for Vegas. So in essence Lowes does pay for Vegas.

It’s just like being happy when the government raises corporate taxes. The corporation charges customers more to cover the expense so the customers actually pay for the added cost.

Vegas is a vulgar display of wealth. After thousands are put out of work, to have a party in Vegas is disgusting!

Ellison then has the audacity to invoke God’s name. I don’t think Jesus would be allowed to attend the Vegas party. He wouldn’t be dressed well enough.

Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they do...

The majority of the Las Vegas Cluster F is paid for by extorting the vendors.

It's "pay to play". With the declining sales and reduced margins, I don't think the Las Vegas meeting is going to be sustainable in the future. Vendors are not going to participate if their sales and margins do not improve!

If they need a place where they can fit everyone well it's easier than they think. Headquarters are in NC..... find a field and stand them out there with the rest of the cow patties. Think of the savings!!!! I bet they could add on to their new gym and add a bar to the juice bar. Ah yes the company that paid off a man to keep quiet when they kept him after he passed out repeatedly .... turns out the poor bloke had nearly died of a heart attack. Lowe's where we're okay with you dying as long as we don't have to leave our office.

I am a CSA who has enjoyed traveling to Vegas with some friends every couple of years. A bit of a guys weekend away. Lowes does go a bit overboard, my only defense to this is the following. Having been there, as well as travel to many other cities with a spouse who has a job that goes to conferences and the like Vegas is really the only place in the country where you can get every person on the same property and in the same convention hall with minimal work. I’m not debating whether or not this meeting is absolutely necessary I myself don’t think it needs to happen. But from a logistics standpoint and having been to Las Vegas with someone going to a company event and having been there as just a tourist, I believe Vegas is only chosen for its logistics.

I wonder if Home Depot does a meeting? If they do then Lowe’s will be doing the exact same thing next year.

Thanks for reviewing and correcting all statements on the internet. We appreciate you and internet creator Al Gore less than we can ever say. I mean that from the heart of my bottom.

Anonymous 1: It sounds like you're complaining making $20/hour. Why are you still working for Lowe's? Ask a new hire how many years it would take them to make this much, unless you're in a high dollar state.

Anonymous 2: I think you mean "poor" not "pour".

Lowe’s pays me $20 a hour to manage people. That IS a living wage? If your pushing cart what do you expect. Move up you get minimal pay for minimal skills.

I find it amazing that Lowe's has a meeting in Vegas the way that they do. No other retailer I've ever worked for going back to when I was 16 years old has ever put on a dog and pony show like Lowe's does.

This is just another example of the rich (Lowe's corporate) taking from the pour (those of us that work in the stores). Marvin seems to have forgotten that there are no cash registers at the corporate offices.

Finally where is it written that only management and corporate are allowed to make a living wage? If you're an adult, give 100%, you should be able to live on what Lowe's pays. You shouldn't have to work a second job, rely on public assistance, or go hungry because you work for Lowe's (or any other retailer).

Vegas is how they spend what they are not paying us in wages and cutbacks. My pay cut is their walking around money.

The way I repay their kindness is to enjoy the time they’re gone and not listening to what they bring back.

Makes sense in the bizarro world we call s’ewoL.

Rock on Marv, rock on.
