Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Question

Laid off well over 3 months ago... AIG has not yet shipped me any boxes to return equipment. I have called and emailed HR deptpartment on 4 separate occasions. Is anyone else experiencing this? I don’t want to keep this c-ap at my house any longer.

HR is too busy laying off the last remaining employees over 55 to respond to you.

Yes, Shared services will be targeted. They are already talking with a Vendor.

Are there any indications whether or not shared services will be targeted for any up and coming RIF’s thanks

Call local bar association see if they can tell you legally when that equipment is yours since you were laid off and they haven't requested it back. Most bar associations will offer free advice on some matters as attorneys have to have so much pro Bono work.

No, I didn’t run into this issue. Three days after I got booted, they sent me a UPS box with shipping label. This was 4 months ago.

Contact your manager - it's their responsibility to work out return of equipment.

They sent me a UPS box, packing and arranged for pick up from my house.

Wow...So sorry to ready this. When I was let go, they shipped boxes to my house that had to be coordinated by HR. If HR is not reaching out, I would say F-them and sell it as used parts on ebay. I mean as long as you get pay owed, who cares. You tried.

HR has instructed me to contact IT help desk and they stated that I can take it to an office. Problem is I don’t live near an office! I was 100% remote employee. I called IT this morning and they emailed me a form for me to fill out and send back in order for them to process the return!!! It’s a total joke. I’m going to wait a few months then just junk it at a trusted place. I was wondering what others had done in this situation... thank you all for the feedback :)

Yep. And sensitive data could be on your machine. The level of apathy at the company is appalling. I would be surprised if they don't get bought out or sell off more businesses. Yet another layoff is coming, the names of who will be cut are already submitted.

Ditto - they don't care - and frankly, it appears they don't care about much of anything let alone their outdated junk. They had ONE week to either come get their junk or send me boxes (prepaid postage) - which they didn't do so it's mine - and I will NOT keep asking them what I need to do with it - they let ME go - not the other way around. During my little layoff phone call, I offered to bring it back but they told me I couldn't come in the building again (yet they told me I could apply for any open positions!!! Ha! What a complete joke) - so there ya go - I'm good - it's mine. BTW - I'll most likely donate it to the homeless shelter or some other worthy cause when I'm done using it. Probably the best thing to do with it since it is a hassle to dispose of. Maybe we should back charge them for our trouble in disposing of it? I just might send them an invoice.

I'm curious to the OP, does HR give you any directions on what to do or who to contact? If not, I recommend sending a certified letter, with return receipt, stating that you'll no longer store the equipment. Give them a drop dead date, something like 10 business days, and after that you will dispose of the equipment.

I was in the position 6 months ago and was told to junk it by management. They do not care.
