Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

UPRR Strong

Look at all these rumors on this page! How many of these predictions have come true!? We as Union Pacific Employees need to coach each other up not bring people down with all these false rumors. Have the Curage to Care and pat each other on the back and LETS move some CARS! Last time I checked the Union Pacific Railroad put a roof over my head and food on the table. We need to look at times like this and band together to become more productive so we can all get through this together. We can only be successful as engaged employees not rumor spreading employees. Let’s keep the focus on what we do best and that’s service and moving cars. Here at Union Pacific we do care about our employees and anyone who has worked here knows that. We’re the best at what we do! Let’s shutdown the rumor mills and go have a Safe Day!

I work for bnsf a train crew guy the other day says we all deserve to be fired. I'm now waiting for transportation to furlough when things slow down and see him again and say YEAH buddy! There your people go!!!

As if there's been anything close to carrying, I have not seen it in the Mechanical side since I have have been here. Yes they pay for my time, but don't lie about caring and compassion when we make over a Billion in profits a quarter and this is what are hard work gets us. Fired "furloughs " for people with many years of hard work and nothing to more than we want more money go home.

The new model seems to be fine are cheaper than fixing. 🤨

This post is ridiculous. I don't work at UP but I live in Omaha and I'm appalled by what's happening at the corporate office. UP doesn't give a sh-- about its employees. They've quickly gained the reputation as one of the worst places to work in Omaha, alongside First Data and West. I can't think of too many people in the IT community that would willingly take a job there at this point.

Lol, what’s left of the UP is a circus. All the current employees are walking the tightrope and Ringmaster Lance is standing at the end with his shiny Fiskar scissors waiting to make the cut.

I worked my butt off for a UP subsidiary with performance reviews and promotions to prove it. I was then relocated to the glass palace and started paying railroad retirement. Guess what? I was laid off 3 months short of qualifying for railroad retirement with 500 others. I often wonder what their stories were. Ask me if Union Pacific cares about their hard-working and dedicated employees? But I do believe they will reap what they have sown. Sooner or later.

The "New Reality" is that good people (wise people) are walking out the door. Or many employees are staying but breaking it off in your aarse every opportunity they get. And believe me --- WE get plenty of opportunities to break it off.

If you all are that unhappy working for UPRR, QUIT. I knew what I hired into. There is no railroad is this country that actually cares about their employees. I have no idea why you dumb--ses thought they did. Railroads care about profits, not people. I didn't hired on the railroad to work, not make friends. The railroads have always been very unpredictable. Layoffs happen at everyone of them

Please, stop the rah rah cheerleader BS. Real people with real situations are trying to adjust and figure out how to make it through this or find an alternative. You sit there behind your screen and twiddle away your day doing a good job. I will try to stay focused without making an error that could injure or kill somebody. Either way, it’s no small deal that you just keep smiling and working through.

Moan and complain does no good. Look we’re in the new reality folks. The days of sitting in yard offices or behind a computer screen twiddling your thumbs is over. Being angry and disgruntled is not the safe course here. We need to hold the line right now and get out and do our jobs. You are the best in the industry! Believe that! Let’s go out and be engaged, care for one another, and give our customers the best service that they’ve come to expect from us. Sitting on here feeding the rumor mill does no good for anyone. Be happy! Be greatful for this great job.

BNSF is absolutely not a better railroad. 2016 UP laid off around 1000 employees in a couple days. Three months later BNSF slowly let go of around 800 managers. BNSF has slashed jobs with the best of them. BNSF will be chasing UP down the rabbit hole. Also give Grandpa Warren a big thank you for screwing us on our bonus this year!

Uprr will take your pride, dignity, self worth, and break you down until you actually believe it. Their benefits and pay are not worth it. I totally regret ever working for this company. There are so many better companies out there. Get out while you are still young. The railroad retirement s---s you in.

Have you ever been read a generic statement, treated like youve stole something from a company you gave everything to and thrown on the street? Bonus pulled, healthcare shut off and no severance?

Until then, save your up corp propoganda. Up doesnt give a flying c-ap about you. This is a flaming dumpster fire and everyone needs to jump ship. Only then, up gets what it wants. Yes men, frat boys, thier son in laws, husbands and others they think should "feel the priviledge" of working there. Total groupthink. Or buyin, if you drink the juice. They run it like a dude ranch for those who are protected and expect different results.

The streets are littered with those who gave honest hard work only to have thier character smeared covering for thier own failures.

Get out.

That post is the biggest pile of corporate cheerleading nonsense I’ve seen recently. And I’ve been around this company for a while. I have certainly been here long enough to say that anyone who thinks UP cares about it’s employees is terribly deluded. If the brilliant minds in the Crystal Palace really want to see the employees come together maybe they should sh*t or get off the pot with the whole workforce reduction thing. Leaving 40000+ people dangling with no hint of whether they will have a job beyond the next five minutes is borderline cruel- but more importantly it is killing productivity and motivation.

Yes, stay positive and have a safe day. Try to focus on your job while you wonder if the lies and deception will continue. Is today the day we won’t be invited back with no heads up notice? No sir or ma’am. It’s more like, when do I pull up stakes so I can keep a steady flow of income. If you plan to let us go, say it early. We have a lot of people wondering if we will still be around next month or if we need to accept that other safe job offer just to find out the job we had is safe. That is NOT an employer who cares. UP used to be a great company to work for and I still enjoy my work, but this whole new greedy under belly being exposed by new leadership is just too much.
