I've retired and quit taking a daily paper, but found a substitute in the Dilbert archives. It appears that Honeywell leadership is stuck in a 1993-1995 time warp for their leadership ideas: witness https://dilbert.com/strip/1995-01-09 regarding open office.

It looks more like Bangalore every day. IT is a joke. The executives are trying to bury any negative results of the extreme IT outsourcing to India. India works cheap. They never question managements extremely short term thinking. They work constantly. But they don’t have quality people doing quality work. The Honeywell IT leadership is trying to drain the brains of all the quality people that are left and create lots of documentation. they hope to put this into an artificial intelligence system that will solve IT problems That the cheaper labor does not have the experience to resolve. It just doesn’t matter to the leader ship in Honeywell IT that every day Is yet another fire drill to fix it up and cover it up. These newbies they put into a management position come in, shake up the world and hope they can get out before it all crashes after they get their new job somewhere else and leave a garbage pile behind them here.

With all those continually-emptying cubicles, it's easy to "modernize" (cough) the work center! Find another empty area and chainsaw the cubicles down in the middle of the night. Make the employee clean the dirt, sawdust & asbestos. off the next morning, then make them move themselves. Don't forget to get that "most important task" done, anyway. The elbow of deth is waiting.

There's only so many other empty cubicle areas that used to have workers, that now have storage for unused office furniture, old test equipment, files of skeletons past (and present), leftovers of failed products, and perhaps a few bodies lying back there.

Nothing about cramming more people into less space and eliminating any shred of ownership of a chunk of space. Oh boy -- glad I pulled the pin in August, after 38 years.

t's a Bright New Workspace, Thanks to Modernization Projects

Bright, welcoming (?) conversation areas. Glass-fronted conference rooms. Low, table-height dividers between work spaces. That's what Workplace Modernization projects are bringing to Honeywell Aerospace.

Part of Honeywell's ongoing commitment to a professional (really? like looking like a telemarketing call center) work environment that supports collaboration and diversity (?) , Workplace Modernization is all about creating open areas where people can work with each other more easily and communicate better. (And spread cold viruses more easily. cough, cough, sniffle, sneeze….)

It's another means of bringing employees together in ways that help drive innovation. (?)

There are 38 Aerospace sites in all regions around the globe scheduled for Workplace Modernization projects, with work underway this year and continuing well into 2019 and beyond.

The projects cover a variety of work and gathering spots, ranging from office areas and cafeterias to conference rooms and training rooms. Several restroom projects also are scheduled. (Are they going to lower the stalls ?)

The results are dramatic. For example, the Workplace Modernization update at Aerospace-Clearwater brought open seating areas conducive to brainstorming, sharing ideas and quick collaboration. At Aerospace-Redmond, the new cafeteria makes it easy for employees to gather and talk.
