Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

I overheard a Sr manager today discussing that if anyone had missed out on a raise that they are a target for layoffs

Hey everyone, so I overheard another sr manager today discussing that if anyone had missed out on a raise that they are a target for being laid off. Does anyone else heard anything like this?

GM is not a technology company. They are a car company trying to act like a tech company. Hence the layoff...

I know the top performer in one group that has said he has been excluded from all staffing discussions. The rest of his team is in Detroit. He's pretty sure he will be cut, and there is no doubt about his performance. Location seems to be a high priority. Odd that a technology company can't manage teams at various locations.

Nch are on a pay raise schedule and there is more than one schedule. I am on the October April schedule and others are on the January July schedule. No one expected to get a nch January raise has gotten it because they have been frozen until the lays offs happen.

People who think this is solely CAP based are looney. They are trying to cut costs, not random employees. Trim down employees that aren't needed, not cutting departments that may already be short staffed.

Cost is at the top of all of this.

This makes sense - if you weren't given a raise in years past - you would be a low performer and subject to a layoff now. If this is done correctly they will focus on this and not age/pension status/etc.

Yeah, doesn't seem to make much sense since most raises aren't effective until March.

It doesn't make sense. We don't know about our raise until February and they already know who they want to chop. It's not all about performance so it would not be the only main strategy for the layoff. Just wait and see. Get resume and interviews ready is the best thing to do now.

I heard that they were putting raises on hold for everyone. Someone on my team missed out on a raise and asked the manager- this was the response.

Did anyone receive a raise over the last 3 pay periods?
