Advancing only “on paper”

I think Dell is the only company in the world where you can advance through the company structure, but at the same time earn less and less. The managers keep on giving me new job titles, new assignments, they assign people for me to lead, but at the same time they were they pay and the bonus quotes, so while I’m advancing, I earn now basically the same amount that I was earning 6 years ago when I was starting off at the company. I swear when I tell people this they either think that I’m joking or they don’t believe me.

Well... then leave... and get hired back with a better salary, if you are so inclined. This tactic actually works :)

To the original poster of this, I hear you. About 4 years ago they started a scheme here to make us all take on more work and huge numbers and patches, but get paid less as a result.

A few people fell for it "because of the opportunity" and "be a team player" etc, but the reality was it is all about taking on more work, more risk and a higher number so you get paid less. Reducing cost increasing output. Managers fall for it all the time. I am on less pay now than 8 years ago but learned to not take the next roles until I see the fine print and ask "Why would I take less money to do more work"

Dell, manages and a-- lickers rules. thats known and will be forever. if you want to change world start one yourown and dream for the better.

my manager assign me an additional role as her personal assistant with the same pay, also a team lead role to manage her team while being an IC, and assign me more roles that are part of her JD. All the while with the same pay. No wonder everyone applies for management.
