Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Lance should stay out of politics

Lance's talk on Thursday was pretty good, until he expressed so much sympathy for those poor, deprived government workers on paid vacation because of the shutdown. His comments on this were out of line and irresponsible. Lance, do you realize that these poor, sympathetic government employees will get full back pay? Do you realize that they earn far more than most private-sector employees? Do you realize that they have spectacular benefits and a great retirement plan that YOUR OWN employees will never have?

It worries me that Lance would make political statements like this. What good can possibly come of it? How does it help the shareholders? His comments have alienated at least half of his workforce (and probably much more than half), and half of his shareholders.

And this from a man who is laying off hundreds of good, loyal, hard-working Americans. Americans who are doing real work, who are actually building America, not living off of our taxes.

I heard rumors last fall that Lance may resign and go into politics. Well if he does, at least now we know what side he'll be on.

Lance wants to be in Congress. Posturing and speaking to current events is important for laying the groundwork.

Compassion does not have anything to do with politics. If it does for you, I think a serious self examination would be warranted.

Also, way to bash the government workers who were laid off. I can speak from experience, not all are created equal, the only ones getting paid more and have better benefits are military and congress, and they weren’t laid off because spending bills for their work was passed late last year, almost like the republicans planned last year to stage a standoff over the wall when they could have passed a budget in October. The people laid off were analysts, secretaries, clerks, runners, and security guards, TSA making 25-50k and They pay more premium a in insurance than agreement folk and have less coverage. As for retirement, they have a 401k with a 6% match just like most companies, no more pension( unless Congress) and they are on social security, which if you haven’t paid attention, that’s how congress has covered the bush tax cuts and wars, and now want to do the same with trump tax cuts, so you can’t rely on SS. In my calculation, if you are working an agreement job as a new guy and gets 30-40 hours a week, then you’re making more than 90% of the people who were laid off last mont who couldn’t make ends meet for 30 days. Sure, most will get back pay, (not federal contractors), but you should know the hardships of uncertainty if you’ve ever been furloughed. Have some compassion you f----wad.

No. I can do whatever I want for a living. I knew what I was getting into when I hired into the railroad. Its extremely unpredictable. Depending on the work I get, could be 6 hours or 7.8 hours. The only actual break we get is a 20 minute lunch. I grew up in this industry. Layoffs happen. Nature of the beast.

I also dont understand the botching of layoffs. Yeah it s---s, but its life on ANY RAILROAD. If you or anybody else thinks they can run and operate this railroad better, put your money where your c---trap is and do it. Like us, they have a job to do regardless of how we think it should be done. Stop crying like a new born baby and become the CEO.

No im not 300lbs or b--ch about my work. I usually try to give the company 6 to 7 hours of work. I take alot ot pride in my work. What I dont understand is that you think this or any other railroad would actually care about you or anyone else. Its pathetic to think that they care. Open your eyes and start to understand. They dont care. Never will. It's not personal. Its business and has been going on since the B&O railroad first started. You and all of us are just a number. Instead of spending money you should have put money aside. The railroads LIFESTYLE is extremely unpredictable. Layoffs happen. If you dont like it then F---ING QUIT. Stop b--ching and get on with your useless pathetic life. Shut happens. Its life.

If Lance does run for political office I sure hope he had the foresight to purchase all the possible combinations of web domains. It would sure be a shame for someone to have purchased those over the past couple years.

It really surprises me that we have soo many id--ts that worked for the railroad. I'm from a railroad family. Haven't you assclowns ever read history on the railroads. This is a LIFESTYLE, it's not a job. In my 15 years I've been laid off 3 times with 2 different railroads. Layoffs and railroads are very much related. If you a--holes thought that for a second this company or any railroad actually cares about you and your family, you deserve to be laid off. Stop running your c---trap and either quit or shut up. This is the railroad, it's a LIFESTYLE NOT A JOB.

I cant believe he had the balls to say sh-- about them when hundreds of his own workers are furloughed without any hope of ever getting back pay or even a job back. Just shows the disconnect between working class and asshats like him.

Lance cares about his pocket first.

I am for the wall, but as a shareholder I do not want a million people w/out pay and planes grounded - now we can argue about what would have happened had this ot that happend but thats for a different website, we will both get banned and blocked by mods/admins if we push this further kn thelayoff dot com

Btw, Lance is a Trump supporter too...

This isn't Lance's choice. This is share holders. Yes profits and OR are great, but your overhead is through the roof.
