Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Washington job protection act.

Has anyone looked into this? I was told about it from another co-worker and he described it as that since the company is laying off for reasons other than business being slow or not making money that this is a payment system depending on your years of svc. I read through it and to me it sounds like it's only for when two railroads do a merger or something along those lines. And of this does cover us during these lay offs then how do we get these benefits? I'm being laid off come Feb 5th and would like as much info as possible.

To the original poster, get with your union chairman and find out about railroad unemployment benefits. You might qualify.

Whether your Republican or Democratic, it doesn't matter. This classic old school railroading.

Honestly wether this applies or not, we should be pushing something like this regulation to our politicians.

I've been a republican for years but record profits followed by layoffs and wage freezes, lower benefits etc is an overreach. Particularly after tax breaks.

I hate that it's come to this but I'm absolutely going to call my representative.

No it wouldn't apply. When they shut down Denver, those affected by the previous layoffs will receive if I'm right 60 to 70 percent of their wage because they came from a closed shop. I think that agreement was in affect for 3 to 5 years.

Negotiated in railroad industry in 1936, and still in effect, this plan provides displacement and severance allowances to employees required to accept a new position or separated from employment because of unification, consolidation, merger, or pooling of separate facilities, operations, or services.

Take for example South Morril shop, they will fall under this act because the shop is closed. Railroad employees that get laid off such as you it doesn't protect.
