Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Don't give them the satisfaction of quitting!

Please! I said this before and I'll say it again: anybody who leaves on their own before the layoffs are done is doing General Motors leadership a huge favor. They save money on each and every one of you, most of which will go directly into their own pockets.

Why would you want that? How hard is it to wait it out and then leave with a nice safety net?

If you quit and you weren't on the list to get layed off, it doesn't save anyone on the list from getting let go. All it will do is open a new rec for an unexpected college new hire.

Targets for cuts were given to senior leaders at a high level. They will look at this holistically, not at a low level.

I would be surprised if they make cuts to teams with 5 or less people.

So if a team has 5 people and 2 are to be cut and of the 3 to remain, if 1 or 2 quit that would have no bearing on the layoffs?

At this point the layoff list is already decided.

Somebody quitting today won't save anyone else from getting laid off.

Also remember that if you quit you cannot receive unemployment benefits.

If people who found other jobs quit before layoffs -- they may possibly save a colleagues jobs who may otherwise be part of the layoff. We may not care about GM but we should be happy to save someone else's job.

Because then you're a laid-off when looking for next job, which is a big disadvantage in many fields. Each will need to make their own calculation.
