Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Why layoffs are for lazy corporate overseers

"Layoffs are a failure by top executives to properly manage the business and forecast needs — and a failure of the board to ensure the right management is in place" - its employees that suffer.

They overhired at every location, and also didn't spread out the work evenly.

Regarding Georgia, I don't have a head count. Just to clarify the 2 buildings that were leased were later closed down and people moved to the new addition (the built out warehouse).

My point was if the executives who made the hiring decisions just hired whatever fit in the original building:

1) We wouldn't have had to pay to lease 2 buildings

2) We wouldn't have had to pay to the new construction

3) There would be less people (or even no need) to fire people and upend people's lives. Give employees more work, let them be productive. Not saying everyone in Georgia was underutilized, but there's always some teams who are under capacity, and some who are over.

How much money was wasted on excess infrastructure and excess salaries? Will they be held responsible for their poor decision? Probably not. They're likely the ones picking who gets fired due to their poor decisions.

This is why a person needs to research a company’s financial track record before considering working there.

Here in Georgia we leased two other buildings to accommodate more people, built out the warehouse to accommodate more people.

After all said and done, whatever employees are left over can probably fit in the old building.

Whoever made the staffing decisions obviously can't plan and should be fired for wasting so much money.
