Did anyone feel like they were being encouraged to leave or were given a soft push? Anyone older 55+ that felt this way?

i never felt pressure to push the button or not.
i did, however, feel pressure to say what i was planning to do.
for a long time i was truly undecided.
when asked what i was planning, i would reply "i'm not sure yet" or, "i'm still not sure"
they clearly thought i was hiding my intentions as a slew of questions would come that were obviously intended to get me to say one way or the other.
The VSP was my opportunity to both vote 'no confidence' in what I've seen of our trajectory and get paid at the same time.
57 with 30+ years. Felt no pressure from leadership whatsoever.
Over 50 and was never asked and was actually asked if possible not to consider it but if I did, they would understand. I have my old pension and 401k and didn't press the button. If anything, they are really showing their appreciation of me, although I never had a problem with my leadership.
Over 55 year old First Level Manager with 32+ years of service and with both a 401k and pension. The company has paid for 3 degrees and was paying for a 4th ( I had completed almost 5/6 of a MBA degree) when I pushed the button. My Manager didn't say anything to me prior to my telling her I was pushing the button. I wanted her to hear from me first and not HR.
Now I am waiting for fly-fishing season to open. My next conference call with be using monofilament line!
I'm 63 and my manager never spoke to me about taking the package. I didn't take it. I have an easy job and work from home so why go now.

No. I’m 58 and my director was surprised I took the package. She never brought it up to any of us. After I told her I pushed the button she was genuinely happy for me. About two weeks later, I was talking about it and she casually said, what do you think about June? That was it. Never pushed or pressured. I love the team I work with so of course I said June was fine. She ran it up the flagpole but of course there’s no guarantee. But I’m here until June and the work/transition is tremendous. Kinda sorry now that it wasn’t December but I’ll get through it!
my manager and a few of our team took the package. The extent of my conversations with my manager were initiated by me. your manager should not have said anything unless you asked. it must have been uncomfortable for you if this happened and doesn't seem right. it's a huge decision for anybody and added pressure seems unethical.

Nope, not at all. I had to tell my manager that I really wanted their advice on this before they said anything. I took the package. They took the package. Both of us had enough years that the payout looked really, really good. I'm under 50 & my manager is over, if that makes any difference.

58 here. Looks like I was forced into retirement too. Never even dreamed of retiring until mgr decided I would regret not taking VSP. Isn't it illegal for a manager to do this?
Over 50 and definitely was encouraged to take the package. My manager started talking about “my retirement” even before the VSP was offered. This really confused me, because I had no intention of retiring. Non union employees do not receive a pension or medical benefits, so there really is no incentive to retire unless your over 65.
My manager encouraged to take as she probably knew layoffs were coming.
64 here. No one pushed me. They are almost in a panic because I took the package, extended me to the last possible date.
I definitely was more encouraged to take than to stay. Given that sentiment, I more or less am glad I took the package but really felt I had no choice. Now looking for jobs. I'm telling you - ageism exists. Having been at VZ for many years, it is quite shocking to be older and not as marketable.
The total opposite. My Boss encouraged us to stay and now we feel regret. They have nothing figured out, we have no direction and I am afraid of what is coming down the pike for us after the next round of people leave in March and June.
60 year old here. I didn't take the package and never felt any push to do so.
