Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

What GM will be like after the layoffs and beyond.

Even if you survive the layoffs will GM still be a good place work?

Agreed , make yourself happy in your job. I loved my job at GM and my colleagues , unfortunately I was a contract head , they cut all of us , it wasn't a singled out type thing at least that's what was told to me. No loved it there alot , it was good and I was treated properly, I would return if I could. It was a job I enjoyed because I am passionate about automotive.

There is focus on changing the culture. You all know about the "organizational antibodies". You all know there are THOSE managers or directors who are building their own little empires without regard for the benefit of the company. You all know about the information hoarders and the non-cooperators. If that changes, we will all be better for it.

It's being handled in Trump manner - make US great and screw everyone else. If you work in any other country and make it through tomorrow, don't feel safe. This is not the end of terminations at GM. They won't be done until salary jobs in all non US countries are gone

Depends on how they handle the layoffs... if it is done in a manner where dead weight is tossed (sorry, I do not like people losing their jobs but...), and the best people are kept, then I think things will actually be better (though maybe a more work and less time spent on "thelayoff.com"). If they handle it like they have in the past, using cronyism and the good ol' boy network, then everyone is screwed.

It’s been through many positive changes in the last, and some not so good. Only you can decide if you’re happy with your job or not.

If you’re not happy at GM after the dust settles, then look elsewhere. It’s just a job!

maybe, depends on a lot of things. make the best of whatever job you have and make it the best place to work that you can.
