Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

I was just laid off, promptly escorted off the property, I've spent 18 years with GM and all gone in a snap. There is probably 100s of people la

I was in CCA. I was one of those that was escorted out and I asked why. No answer could be provided other than: a vague: it's a rough decision, business reasons, nothing personal. etc. I always had great performance reviews, I knew nobody was safe but I was not expecting this.

Some people let go today had over 20 years with General Motors. It's sad. It's the end of the road here. I hope I bounce back quickly but I was 1000% invested in GM (professionally, emotionally and financially - this will change now).

Any one offered the VSP should have taken it. Most people that did not take it and had over 12 years, worked for two additional months thus receiving less of a package.

My heart goes out to you. My wife was also walked out today in shameful fashion after 20 years of "exceeding expectations" performance because she was sitting in the wrong chair at the wrong time ... and they axed the directors in her group so she had no one in her corner. To the original poster that was walked out ... please know that today says much more about the ongoing failures of GM management and laughable "human resources management" organization at GM ... and very little about you and your skills and abilities. Having left GM myself through voluntary separation many years ago I can give you hope that the grass can be much greener outside of the failing GM.

"The Motor City is gone forever" This is what we do , not only is it our lively hood but it's what we do here! All gone now. People in this profession are hard core passionate about automotive , it's our blood. I am absolutely heartbroken not only for myself but all of my friends and colleagues , Looking at classic cars will only make me sad now. I am more than aware that this has happened many times , generation after generation of GM employee's have gone through this , what will be the final outcome here? What is the companies final goal and when will it all end? What are we doing to drive the customers away so much , are the designs not eye catching , what is lacking in GM vehicles and what do the customers need and truly want in a vehicle from any automaker ? Please respond , I would like to know? Now is the time to speak up . It would be great to start a pole to find out , What does the customer want in a vehicle ?

From the postings I've seen so far, it sounds like they're getting rid of a lot of older people.

Make sure to use that compensation for something that is non-GM.

At GM, we alienate customers for life.

I was told my position was being eliminated. I worked for GM for 20 years and was compensated for my talent. I plan to use that talent for something new.

I just went to get a competitor vehicle, since I am clearly disheartened by how we were treated and how others are in the same boat. The best I can do is let me wallet do my talking going forward. Stay strong, we will get through this!

Use it to become a 100% advocate against GM.

Wake up call person is right. When your heart is torn out, it hurts.

You learn to harden yourself. You eventually learn. It's funny to see so many unaware, until you finally find yourself in the situation.

I sure am glad I quit buying GM vehicles.

My guess is that the executives don’t really care if you buy vehicles. They have their golden parachutes. Someone last week said that MB’s pay is justified because she has to make the hard decisions. She make over 400 times my salary...no justification for that

Wake up call, person.. not helping. Nothing in your post was useful. You can vent other places. This person just poured their heart out after 2 decades.. and you respond with, "welcome to the club?"

And to the actual poster.. I'm very sorry. This post hurt my heart.

Welcome to your wake up call. Many of us received this prior to 2000. GM has reaffirmed this throughout the last two decades.

Once a mind is woke, it can never be returned to it's slumber. Open a pandoras box, the contents can never be returned. Created advocates against GM for life, and you will never earn a customer for your product again.

Welcome to the club. Kind of like the matrix isn't it?
