Social security letter?

Need some sort of letter saying the payment was a severance, otherwise they count it against social security benefits?

If you are taking SS before 66 then you’re only allowed to make around 15500. A year. After that you are penalized.

Op, social security is not impacted by severance for work you did before claiming even if it is in the same year but why would you file for benefits in the same year you received probably more than a years pay? You will wind up paying more taxes and if you wait until next year, your benefit will be higher.

It’s form 131, download it from ssa.gov, fax it to payroll....otherwise social security will reduce your monthly benefit by 66%....

Why not use the letter they provided when they notified you about getting the severance?
