I am hearing that people with Exceeds Expectations are getting laid off. This just blows me away. I received that on my last CAP and thought that would be helpful to see me through this. Now It seems worthless. I worked my butt off for that. The place was a pressure cooker today. This whole thing is terrible.

This 401K vest thing is stupid! Lost mine too.
I got walked out this morning. I worked in EVs, so I thought my job would be safe through all this, given the new direction of the company. It turns out that they’re out here firing everybody! Hide your jobs, hide your savings! Don’t get too comfortable, even if you’ve done everything right. I only ever wanted the exact job I had; I truly loved it. Goodbye GM.
Ford, Chrysler, Rivian: do any of you want an enthusiastic, hard-working, hands-on, EV-loving engineer?
I was promoted twice in over 8 years and never had a bad review. Didn't matter. The layoffs are certainly not performance based.
CAP reviews at GM are a joke. It’s all about favoritism, nothing to do with anything that can be calculated back to a number.
Anyone that thinks they have been exceeding goals at GM and have been laid off. I’m sorry, but you will get a real dose of reality at any real company.
All I have gotten in my years @ GM is Exceeds or Meets, plus a retention bonus when I was ready to jump ship a few years ago (20-20 hindsight). None of that mattered....
Got high scores on CAP two years in a row (was with company 2.5yrs), promoted from specialist(7b) to a lead calibrator(7a) on global program and carried my 7b role till 1/22/2019 as well due to lack of replacement .
I was walked out today from MPG. So I lost $25k in 401k vesting due to cutting me under 3 years.
Yep.. I’m at risk and I got “Exceeds Expectations” too
That isn't true about the atonomous vs sw engineer. I have seen dozens of atonomous/hybrid engineers get walked out today. Some 8T, some 6B, some somewhere in between.
I know two good guys that are hard workers that got let go today
I got two consecutive years exceeds and I got axed in chandler today .. performance does not matter.
I know a few people that are highly competent that were walked out. I don't know their CAP rating, but one of them received an award on one of the quarterly IT all hands. It's a shame GM is letting go of good performers.
I feel bad for those impacted by the change in direction of the company. With that said in my 20 years with gm I can only think of 2 times that this has happen to salary folks. While every quarter, management finds ways to cut hourly people without a second thought. Something to think about whole going through this difficult time for some.
Any Layoffs happened in GCCX today
Thanks, that makes me feel better, especially since I am working on the electric platform at the VEC.
Yeah the CAP is just BS.
They use that instead of the stick.
Notice there's no carrot?
Has this been confirmed? A lot of people on this site have been stating that hard workers have been getting axed but everyone I’ve talked to and seen have been low performers.
I'm going to quote what I've heard. GM says autonomous and electric is the future. Suppose Person A is a mechanical engineer that works on engines and get an "exceeds" rating, and there's Person B who gets terrible CAP reviews but is a proficient software engineer - already in autonomous. Person B stays, person A gets the ax.
what location?
