Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

NCH in Austin

I’ve literally only been here since June. I haven’t even had a performance review with my manager yet. If I get laid off I will solely believe it’s because they were trying to have certain number so of level 5s. It wouldn’t be performance based because I’ve only been on one project and it was a huge learning experience for me. I can’t believe this is something I have to worry about in my first job out of college.

Really bad luck. Sorry to hear that.

Happened to me once, was let go after 6 weeks.

Caused me to move on to bigger and better things.

Get on LinkedIn, Monster, Indeed. Glassdoor.

Software developrs are in demand and that is to remain so for the next 30 years.

All the best.

If you do happen to get laid off it won't be the end of the world. Austin is a great town with a ton of opportunity. If you look I'm sure that you will find something amazing here. I'm pulling for you!

Your college will not like it too (they hired you, used college resources, the career center, etc and they are laying you off now) - it'd be foolish for them to let you go as this will shut the door to the career center.

And yet, they've done so many stupid things nothing will surprise me any more.

They got a NCH here in Atlanta too. They were only here since June. It's awful.

They do what to keep a good reputation at colleges? Lay off all the people they just hired so the colleges won’t want them to come back?

They do this to keep a presence at colleges and maintain a "good reputation" with the colleges

But that literally doesn’t make sense. Why did they just spend 10k recruiting and moving NCHs just to lay them off less than a year later. I literally turned down other job offers for this job because it was a good offer, obviously I wasn’t expecting this.

@XtxOeDP-yxg you are correct my mistake, they were hired in June, but still very awful regardless

do the math, the age discrimination is 40....one 50 yrs old needs two 20 somethings. I saw 3 NCHs get axed today that had been there less than 6 months. One cried i felt awful

First of breathe second learn to handle stress in a much more consecutive way then venting strangers/trolls on the internet. I highly doubt you get the axe, but if you do it’s probably because you’re to high strung and don’t handle stress well.
