Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

WTC layoffs and the WARN act

This message is for those who were already laid off this week for WTC. Did they ever mention the WARN filing? https://www.michigan.gov/documents/wda/GM_Warren_Technical_Center_645492_7.pdf

If so, did they say whether your last paycheck before severance will be on Feb 28 or Apr 9?

I'm sorry for bringing up the topic, and my deep sympathies on being laid off. I might be one of the ones joining you soon as my group has not been touched yet at AEC.

When they went through my severance, they told me I was still am employee until the end of February and would continue to get full pay, I just could not come to work anymore.

My 6th month severance starts March 15th, same two full paychecks a month. So Mar-Aug.

Then she pulled out the WARN notice and told me by law they have to give me 60 days notice. Since they didn't, they have to pay me my full salary through April 9th.

As it was explained to me, WARN and severance have nothing to do with each other.

So does this mean that even if I was laid off from WTC, the WARN act does not apply to me because I am a recent employee? Or does this mean GM will pay me all the money through April 9 on February 28 and severance on top of that? I don't understand.

While your last working day is whatever day you get let go, you get paid through month end. Then your severance kicks in Mar 1

I was told to sign the severance and I would be paid till Feb 28 and then severance after that.

NO WORDS on the WARN act. I just found it. That was the last page of the package %$#@&*%.

I didn't work that long at GM. What does this mean for me?

I still find it amazing how poorly executed this whole process has been. HRBPs are clueless for the most part. I'm amazed that they didn't get hit.

So say you only had 1 year of service it would be better to not sign the release and take advantage of the warn and get paid through April 9th? If you have 6 years and you sign the release you’re waving you rights to the warn and will begin severance on March 1st and receive it for 3 months. Does that sound correct?

Last comment is misleading, by law, if laid off at WTC, you are paid till april 9.

If you sign the severance, you waive your right to the warn act. This is where the uncertainty is. Not the other way around.

If you don't sign, your last paycheck is the 28th (since you don't have to sign it till you get home, then mail it back in by the 28th). If you do sign, you get a paycheck until April 9th, then severance packages begin.

It would great if someone from GM HR/Benefits could respond to this. Many employees WFR’d at the Warren Tech Center are asking the same thing. I think we all understand the WARN letter, we receive wages, benefits through April 9th. The question is, when does severance begin?

I was told the 28th, no mention of the warn act. Waiting on paperwork to be mailed since they called me on the phone to can me. So our last day is the 28th, but get paid till 4/9 does our severance start after?
