I have observed that there have been a number of town hall meetings lately for different teams. Usually these are few and infrequent. Is this a new drive for more openness or a broad effort across the organisation to get them in before re-org so that management don’t have to answer any difficult questions arising from the re-org? My scepticism suggests the latter....

Be careful what you say in meetings like this. Managers are looking for complainers to layoff.
Who the F is BR?
I attended BR's town hall. I'm sure the other town halls have the same message, so let me summarize it for you:

NO raises(I love the way how she deflects this question. How much bonus and stock option did you get again last year, BR?)

YOU, o dear employee, especially you H1-B'ers are our slaves while we layoff the old white employees
At the least, they’re trying to communicate with the troop. When I was there, no one knew what’s going on.
Let’s give the benefit of doubt and hope they’re trying to do the right things.
Expect to get corn holed in Q5.
I was talking to my friends and they are saying Q3 isn’t going to be good and we can expect more surprises.
