Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

What's the logic

Stories of amazing new hires and outstanding long timers being axed. What's the rationale behind what's being done. M Barra and Human Resources"Management" have failed in this process and should feel ashamed in how they are randomly affecting thousands of families.

It's both sometimes. First to spruce up to sell, possibly as part of an informal agreement beforehand.

Change on a very large scale is clearly the goal. There may be much more going on than announced.

@XvwTNMM-ugf,

As I recall most job cuts take place after a sale or merger, not before. The new management "cleans house".

One of the sheets in my severance package was a web link to a list of available GM jobs I could apply for right now. Ironic?

The headcount is going down so positions are being eliminated. I doubt the majority of layoff positions are reposted. That would be mischief in the margins, over money.

Is looking a lot like prep for a sale/merger.

If they are eliminating roles and not people... Why are job postings for eliminated positions being added to GM careers the same or next day people are walked out. And in many instances very talented people. The media should cover some of these stories so GM Leadership could understand the depth of their own incompetence.

I suppose the answer is that they are eliminating roles, which is much less complicated, rather than choosing or not choosing people. So if they (think they) need an X and don't need a Y then the first person stays and the second goes. Now that's the way to compete, eh?
