Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Why did Bryan Palma leave Cisco?

For those who were in Advanced Services, why did Bryan Palma leave for Blackberry? Looking at his LinkedIn, it appears he leaves a place every 5 years, which is typical of execs. I heard he was generally disliked, and uses companies only as a stepping stone for his own ambitions. What are your thoughts?

The average tenure for individual contributors at the top tech companies is 2-3 years. If you're doing it right you aren't just making bank, you're building skills and a broader professional network.

There are people who come in and catch falling swords better than their peers so they outperform most in that environment and others who happen to be standing there when things take off without actually contributing anything to the success.

@OP He's a compensation package hunter. He doesn't give two rips about the company he's heading. He'll claim "building something awesome", but the only thing he's building is is generational wealth. Look what he and his hand-pick group of cronies did to Trellix? IN less than four years he pushed them to select-default credit status, watched 70% of the customer base walk, slashed revenue by 50%, and walked half the talent out the door, all while making hundreds of millions for his master STG and tens of millions for himself.

Any company that dude heads is one to avoid at all costs, and, if publicly traded, one to short.

Bryan Palma is now the CEO of Trellix. Cisco will buy Trellix?

I’m definitely going to look at FE jobs and stock now with Bryan’s move. He builds great teams and delivers results.

This came up in my feed, probably because Bryan recently moved to FireEye. I worked with him when he first joined Cisco. The only exec (out of many) to clearly state priorities and communicate it to all levels. He posted great numbers and why he was asked to take all of AS. Not a surprise to see him with big titles at and after Cisco.

He was a pompous a–. Always the smartest guy in the room - or so he thought. No one liked him. I left Cisco BECAUSE of him. But looking at the news today of employees being fired for their opinions, glad I left when I did!

Brian has just down from Blackberry. He joined Blackberry in Jan. 2019. That was quick.

Worked closely with him for over three years. His numbers were not adding up. It's as simple as that. There were tons of other issues, but at the end, it was all about numbers!

Bryan never made the numbers he promised Chuck. HE was basically demoted when Maria came in. The reason why he leaves jobs so often is he has never really been successful at one. He's smart enough to leave before he gets blamed for it. You can't grow an org by only cutting costs.

Brian left to get to the other side.

Bryan Palma’s strategy was cut costs only, nothing more creative than that Many people in services knew that AS and TS had to combine but there was no will at senior level due to the fiefdoms that existed. They didn’t need to pay MM £13m to determine that

I was in the meeting he said good bye. It didn’t look good. He wasn’t excited for his next adventure. MM has done a good job clearing out the old fiefdoms for GCS, TS, and AS. She had to if the silos were going to break down.

The new head of Customer Experience cleaned house. Bye bye TS leader, bye bye AS leader, bye bye AS India off-shore leader, bye bye CMS leader, bye bye AS "Incubation" and product lead.

BP clearly wanted MM's role, and was found lacking. Nothing more complicated than that.

Blackberry recently gave their CEO a $150 million compensation package, and an executive in the Technology Solutions group received over $25 million. He received a generous pay bump.

His new package will be made public soon.

No way, Blackberry is a dying company. He is making way less than at Cisco. Maybe Cisco will buy Blackberry just for the patents, especially their QNX OS. Then this Bryan will be back at Cisco again.

He most likely received an enormous pay bump by going to Blackberry.

Shouldn't everyone "use companies only as a stepping stone for his own ambitions" . Especially given how fast they show you the door?

Wake up
