Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Is this true?

Have some people been told to reapply right after being laid off? I was told by a guy who really has zero reason to lie to me that some of the younger employees were offered this option during their notifications.

I don't understand, if that's true, what's the point of laying them off in the first place?

Let’s restate this... you certainly can be returned as an employee if layed off (furloughed) as an agreement employee, since no severance is paid. However, for nonagreement if severance is paid you can’t return as a UP employee...it’s part of the agreement you sign. You can return though as a contractor. I think it would help with all these post if folks dictate if they referring to agreement or nonagreement because it’s honestly two different “ball games” with these layoffs.

I was laid off by UP 20 years ago and signed a similar agreement. I came back 7 years ago. UP can bend the rules when it suits them.

As everyone else have stated can’t be hired back if received a severance as a Up ee. However can come back as a contractor. I know some engineering folks that were hire back as contractor and came back and sat at their old seats. What a joke.

Not true. If you accept the severance, you are never allowed to be employed by UP ever again. It is part of the agreement.
