Severance?

To the clubs whose nightcrew has gone to day shifts, were you offered a severance?

The best thing the night crew should do since they’re moving to days to stock the aisles is to block the aisles with that yellow rope.

Severance WILL NOT be offered, you will keep your shift differential. If you are not able to work one of the two new shifts, you will have to go into Career Preference to apply for any open positions. Since most clubs have openings on the front end as a Cashier, you probably could land up there, but it would be part time.

Love the comments here. Keep them coming lol. Worked carts 7 months and nights 16 years now. Can’t wait to have a normal life again lol. Haven’t heard anything about severance yet. Will post if I find out.

I have noticed that a lot of associates seem to be spiteful on this particular chat. I have worked days and nights for years, I have also been in low tier clubs and high tiers. Now, let me set this straight from the angle I see it.

Both night crew and day crew both rely on each other in a symbiotic relationship within the club; however, I have always noticed that days blame nights for their problems, while nights blame days for their problems.

The challenge for night crew will be, dealing with the stress of being stopped by members requiring service randomly while performing job, censorship/filtering of personal language, answering of radio, maintaining a positive attitude in work environment, last... no music.

The challenge for day crew, you will no longer be pulling empty boxes, you will now be required to stock empty shelves and move whole ailes of merchandise which tends to be more physically demanding. Also, the work demand will overall increase since the number of hours using the forklift..."the most useful tool"... to perform the work for you, will decrease.

We must realize that the people making the concepts are very rarely in the field, and whenever they go into the field, they announced themselves giving time for the clubs to prepare, followed by these corporate representatives being pampered like babies. These corporate managers' heads' would spin if they did random drop-ins, but they would also lose their jobs, because they do not want to report nothing but good news, because that is how you move up the corporate ladder.

I can see this change being successful in low tier clubs, but high tier clubs will have a much more difficult time. Higher sales, higher volume of freight, more pallets need stocking, more time needed, a lot more members requiring assistance causing significantly increased amount of distractions. If the managers are of poor quality, they will then hold their associates accountable for poor job performance, resulting in loss of work crew. these effects compound on one another.

The last problem is universal in the whole club, attendance, with the new rules, I question the stability of high volume clubs to maintain a workforce after restructure, but I just do what I am told, best not to be know as the one who thinks outside-the-box. lol. safer that way.

If this works, I foresee am shift blaming pm shift for their problems, and pm blaming am shift. These things do not change in whatever club you go too. lol.

Oh and bye bye to having 2 days in a row off, you will get use to working 6 in a row, then off 1, then work 2, off 1, then work 3. Remember how upset overnighters would get when they had 10 people working, but only 4 handhelds? Now see what it’s like when you have 30 people working during the day and only have 4 handhelds to share! Don’t forget to carry that walkie at all times when you will not be able to take those 25 minute overnight breaks because everyone is waiting for you to get back on the floor so you can cover their breaks! Hahahaha just the thought of all the stockers now having to wear a vest and name badge makes me crack up!

Daylight is use to stocking pallets and fixing resets from overnight. As well as hanging the signs that overnight did not change. Then daylight has to work the No Location report from the night before when overnight put out hot items but did not locate them. Oh, then they fix all the CIM locations for pallets that overnight stocked but did not take out of reserve steel. Overnight doesn’t give a sh-- about CIM and they will be in for a good time learning how to do Audits when the reserve steel information is wrong. Now when the opening manager does the steel walk, they can have the lift drivers that actually put up the bad pallets and sh--ty stacked partials instead of leaving their mistakes for daylight drivers to fix. Not much changes for daylight people now, it will be a joke watching the antisocial whiners from overnight assimilate into the real world.

So here are a couple of things that should be interesting to see when night crew goes to days:

No more wearing headphones or blasting music while you are driving around on a fork lift.

No more taking breaks and going to lunch whenever you feel like it. Now you will have to work around other associates breaks and cover other areas while they break.

Clean up that potty mouth, no more F bombs when you work around the members and the 3 or 4 managers on duty daily.

Calls to the front end for lines at the registers. Remember how you don’t like running registers, too bad now buttercup! Make sure you upgrade everyone to Plus and sell those credit upgrades too. Helping a member get a grill or television huh? Make sure you talk to them about our extended warranty program.

Do you like helping your wife, or husband, fold clothes at home? Well you are going to become an expert at refolding clothes either during the day, or for an hour after closing. Remember, light to dark, small to large, front to back.

“Where did you move the peanut butter?” “Why do you keep moving things around!” “Do you have anymore air conditioners?” “The price sign said $14.98 but rung up $19.98.” Welcome to the world of members swearing that you sell Skippy peanut butter, they just bought some last week, when we haven’t sold that brand in years.

“I want to speak to a manager now!”

Going from having to interact with only 10–12 people overnights, to dealing with 30 different associates daily, as well as maybe 70-80 members on a busy weekend. Remember, 10ft Rule, smile, make eye contact and ask them if they need anything today.

Some of you act like nights just sits back and does nothing. 1st off we do a lot well most of us do, there are a few that skate by. Yes, we are treated like the step children. For the person that said we have to answer to why our area is filthy when we have visits. I must ask you have you ever gone to nights? I bet not and if you have it probably was for one thing and you were out early or on time , not pulled in different directions or notes ontop of your nightly duties. So if you have no idea what you are talking about then keep your mouth shut. Let's try to work as a team instead of working against each other. Btw my open availability is 9pm to 6am so that does not fall into what hours I can work with the new schedule. Peace I'm out!

Only in the Sam’s Club Warehouse you see this. All there is, is work. It’s easy to be real smart about Sam’s processes. Work rings around people? In a warehouse? That warehouse is like a speck of sand on a beach in the world. All hype.

Y’all are funny. People who work overnight don’t work overnight for no reason. Schedule works better, not a people person all that and more. Yet you are waiting for them to come to days. HA! Wait until you have to start doing their work during the day? You have an area assigned to you that sounds great when overnight technically has the whole damn floor which is also including the c-ap the day shift doesn’t do. I know my club always understaffed and overworked and GM wants a miracle DAILY. Sure I can’t WAIT to go to days just so i can look at the day floor people and say WTF you doing stock that sh-- out and lets go. It doesnt take you four hours to stock three pallets.

My club has already gone thru the change. We kept our differential. The senior fulltime wokers got choice of shift they wanted to work...4a-1230p or 3p - 1130p. If those shifts dont work for you. Then they give you a deadline to choose if you want to take a severance. It pays 1 week for every year of service with Sams. I took it ....been there 28yrs... so i get my average weekly pay x 28. Plus all pto paid out. And all clubs will be day stock by July

Night crew thanks they some kinda special anyway. This is the best thing that could ever happen smart move. We have some real smart asses on overnight shift. Welcome to the real world baby I for one can’t wait. That first member that asks you a question. The first MM visit, now you can explain why your area is filthy and not stocked. This is gonna be awesome no more hiding or riding around on your forklift all night.

I don’t believe severance will be offered to any overnight team. Positions aren’t being eliminated, the shift is. FT associates are to have open availability anyway, Have heard that all get to keep their pay differential. We personally look forward to them all coming to days, more to assist with members, liftdrivers, share in the everyday tasks, cleaning, OYI, etc, for those that don’t want to work around our members.. maybe they need to go, that same member pays your check!!
