Kmart Pantry/HBA empty shelves killing my store

Okay, so I know that some people on here have said that it’s gonna take “a while” for the vendors to get back on board since the deal just closed. But does anyone have a more concrete estimate of when things should be back to normal, especially in the grocery section?

Most people here have only been discussing hard goods and softlines, but not consumables.

My store is busy, but sales and traffic at my particular location are heavily dependent on groceries. To back up this point, when the trucks stopped coming the aisles looked like Venezuelan supermarket shelves within days. Traffic has dropped to a point where it’s noticeable to the naked eye. Our coolers which used to be full of milk, eggs, butter, cheese, bacon, cream cheese, etc is now just endless gallons of water and random drinks. We have no bread, cookies, juice, cereal, Coca Cola products, or general grocery. Theyre replaced with the usual suspects of water, tote bins, paper towels, and toilet paper. We’re still getting Pepsi products and Frito Lay chips.

I’m just worried stores are gonna close because of this... anyone got a timetable here?

I work for one of the top vendors that Kmart used to have and I can tell you that most of us are not coming back no matter what. The way we were treated and the way the banks and creditors were treated has put any company that Edward Lampert has anything to do with on the "Do Not Do Business With" list.

Before the BK we extended credit and products to SHC with the promise of 10 day accounts payable, when that failed we went to COD, when that failed we went to Cash Prepay. Each and every time we were bullied by SHC lawyers, hassled by SHC senior buyers and threatened with lawsuits if we did not fulfill our contracts as written. O.K. I can sort of see that, but when you fulfill your contract and you dont get paid then SHC has broken the contract, no us. But SHC brought in the lawyers and it was cheaper to just ask for payment in a different time frame.

But now when Transform Holdco wants us back they are once again threatening, and bullying. Trying to tell us that we are going to miss out on how the new company will be next Walmart or Amazon. Does the new company have less liability than SHC, Yes. Do any of us want to deal with the exact same people who threatened and bullied us when we tried to help them out, No.

If it were possible to have a negative credit rating, Eddie would have it.

Multiple vendors aren’t coming back. Their banks won’t allow them to hold the receivables, or just very limited dollars.

Mclaine was coming back but have stopped now. Coke will not deliver. Pepsi has returned but will not take back credits. A shipment of dollar items on the way though.

the new Sears is loading their a-- like old Sears. No credit manager will take a chance over fear of losing their jobs. High prospect of BK again soon, IMO.

Milk is not coming back, it is not cost-effective. The main pantry vendor stopped selling K-Mart, they will not do business with a company owned by Eddie. That is a direct quote. There is currently no source for pantry unless you can order truckload direct from vendor to the DC. Trust me, it will be longer than 5-6 weeks from date of sale. Kmart has to find a new store distrubtor.

@ifko same here. we don't have the stock to compete with dollar tree anymore. hell, the long departed vending machine guys had better stock than we do. it's obvious that this whole farce is going to keep running until eddie gets his tax savings or whatever else he wants to squeeze out of the cold corpse of kmart.

They tore out the remainder of the coolers at my store within the past two weeks. Previously they had just been filled with drinks that didn't need to be refrigerated. No milk, eggs, cheese, or bacon since October. But with the coolers gone, I don't see that stuff ever coming back?

Non vendor stocked items (vendor stocked would be something where an outside vendors comes in and stocks it) will probably be about 5-6 weeks from date of the sale if things operate like most other retailers. Those types of consumables usually have a month or so lead to the warehouse then Warehouse to store. Maybe slightly longer if they use a buying group to get decent prices on more consumable stuff like bread, eggs, milk etc.

I’m not sure the Coca Cola issue was ever resolved in bankruptcy court.

The OP is spot on here. There is another issue too. If those goods that we are not currently carrying are eventually returned to the store shelves. Will we let our customers know that these products are back?!! How many people are tried of it and just not going to come back and shop their own way somewhere else? Are we going to advertise that we have milk and bread back in stock (if it ever comes back)?
