Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Lazy management

There are many management people without any contribution starting from Manager to senior Director. Why company is still retaining them by paying huge salary. Many of them will come to office once in a while having there own business and just attend meetings remotely without making any contribution. The Management is like a one thief protecting an another thief. Total number of Managers in the org is more then the number of individual contributes. Unless or otherwise the lazy management people are removed from the organization the bright feature is just a dream for the company.

This couldn’t be more true. OP is @Y3mIirH-srd

O keeps bad managers even if because of them it loses best people. O says, let them go, we'll hire others and they go to competition where they do great things, whilst O fills up with bad management.

Not all Managers bring value, this is well known in this M&A environment.

"If they were once IC's, they got there by s---ing up, not Performance."

how do you know that? everyone has different story..not everyone is s***ing up.

in this industry, your worth is based on value you deliver. the guy is your manager, because he is bringing some value, which you seem to be unaware of.

Everyone knows Oracle's review process is on the buddy system. One big joke!

Management has now become the Fat of the company. If they were once IC's, they got there by s---ing up, not Performance.

most managers have grown organically here in Oracle. They were best performing ICs, and became leads.

So I guess you are saying yesterday's bright ICs are non performing assets now?

I am just surprised at person who started this thread. It just shows the level of ignorance some of the ICs have here.

I wonder if anyone here can comment on what it is like to work for one of the new "flat" organizations. I've not but from what I understand, managers are replaced with strict adherence to process - its not the wild-west management free nirvana that so many believe. That's only what I've heard though.

So, person who expects their manager to communicate cutting edge technology to you. Can you communicate cutting edge technology to the rest of your team? If not, why not? If so, then congrats, you are doing what you are paid to do.

Being a manager at Oracle is a miserable existence. You have to listen to whining like this. You have to listen to mo--nic objectives and directives coming from above that make no sense - and then communicate those to a team as if you actually by into them. No one tells you anything. Deadlines are given to you that are ridiculous and arbitrary. No one listens to you - above or below.

So I'll tell you what your manager won't. Just shut the hell up and do your job. If you don't like your job or the company, just leave and make everyone's life a little more peaceful. Sure, you can complain about things but learn when enough is enough and that nothing is probably the direct fault of your manager.

Of course there are bad managers out there - I know of some firsthand. They are complete id--ts that should not be allowed to manage people. People thinking they need to be strict and process oriented at all costs. There are mo--ns in every position from IC0-M8 (or whatever M is the highest). You will never escape that. Most people are just normal people trying to do their job.

I like taking my HUGE management salary in gold coins. When I'm sitting in my corner office with the door closed, its so I can count my gold in peace without listening to the whining of useless engineers. I just move the stacks of coins around on my desk because I like the way it feels. Clink Clink Clink. When I go to a meeting, I have the IC that I keep promising a promo and raise to watch them. If they polish them, they might get a 4 on their appraisal.

I have not seen any management person is technically strong enough to provide information about the cutting edge technologies to the team member. The management will just do a job of collecting information from Individual contributor and provide the same to the higher manager.

Make everyone individual contributors by keeping less number of managers. This will never going to happen because the culture is deep rooted it is a cult of happy management. Thanks to the organization for retaining such management for long time.
