Layoffs are one thing to worry about and what comes after is totally another. I we get cut, we will be facing a bad job market, overflowing with workers and with little demand. Al the major automotive companies are cutting, restructuring, GM already laid off an army of workers. Think that, whoever has that possibility, should try to focus on getting a job in a different industry.

Yeah I don't agree with this at all. This is one of the best job markets in the last 40 years. Hyundai and Toyota are hiring and have offices in Ann Arbor. As of the day after your layoff your full time job is finding a new job.
Detroit has such a small footprint of viable jobs.
It is not the Tech Hub that the media seems to portray it as.
The non-profits of insurance dont pay at all.
Healthcare is dead end in terms of progression.

Took me a year to find a new position after I was cut from GM in 2009...part of it was my own fault, not being well versed enough in interviewing, etc.
