Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Be careful what you tell your manager

After 10 years in sales and always overachieving I got laid off. The crazy politics and demands of daily glory stressed me out. I spoke to my manager and director regarding how this was affecting my mental health. A month later I’m on a PiP. Last day of fiscal at the end of the day I felt it was my last day so I packed my desk. Lo and behold the next day I get a WebEx from my manager for a 1:1 and told me my role is being eliminated. Do yourself a favour start looking for your next move and get pacakaged out.

Bumped from @X5dfXEQ-Zerf so more people can see what can happen when being honest with management.

Its unfortunate that PIP are being used indiscriminately to target people they dont like. Seems like the norm in the U.S. I come from the U.K where employers are extremely careful about writing formal documents like PIP of fear of being sued.

I feel for you man! That is just plan negative karma callous!

You did NOTHING wrong. Your manager's soul works for the dark side.

My lesson in life is that companies are tools. You use them, they use you. No loyalty. Just business/politics. Fine. Never drink the kool-aid, not even if your working for mighty Google!

Good luck in your future. From the coal comes the diamond. Hopefully your next move will be just that!

Same here. I was told by my manager to look for another job but director said...use the PIP and cut her asap. Glad to be out of there.

Lol. I told my manager I was suffering from anxiety (stemming from an external situation). Being a 20+ year model employee, I took my first ever FMLA. The day I came back from the 2-week FMLA, my Manager told me my position was going away and I was being LR'd. Luckily found a roll in another org, but having lunch with an older co-worker, he said my Manager said she "just couldn't deal with my situation at that time." Note, she was new to Cisco for 3 months before my LR. Not worth being a squeaky wheel over as I love my new team and feel overly welcomed there.

I disagreed with two levels of non-technical line managers over the quality of work coming to the team and low morale.

asked to pack bags in november and so I did. 4 people have departed after me.

should have left earlier, insult to education and intelligence to report to the kind of managers that have proliferated in csco over the buildup of toxic political structures.

Thanks for sharing your story. I’m in a similar situation and was contemplating having an honest discussion with my manager. I’ll skip it and just focus on an external search. I hope you find something better soon.
