No more retiree phone discount?

It was recently reduced from 50% to 25%, which they've been talking about on the daily VSP calls. This morning, for the first time, the mealy mouth HR reps glossed right over it, quickly saying the discount goes away upon retirement. WTF? Did I get this wrong? Are they really eliminating even this meager discount?

Verizon employee discounts are an absolute joke! 25 years and I can go to any competitor (FiOS or Wireless) and easily beat my discounted price. Verizon exec's wonder why we won't go out of our way to sell their products... Half of us don't even use Verizon anymore.... SMH

I retired in January 2018 was on the 50 % plan, within two month was switched to 25 % . Then Verizon rep tells me I can get a veteran discount of 15 % also so they put me on that and I lost retiree discount and they say I cant get it back. 33 years with Verizon and they are still screwing me.

@2luv Verizon should want to keep it's retiree's on VZW cell service and the 50% discount "might" help keep more of them from going to competitors. At 25% the bill is still higher than nearly every other competitors plans. And as such one of the things that Verizon can count on, is that nearly every retiree will now drop Verizon cell service within one year of retiring... just as wireline & management retires have been doing for years. It not great for business when people who know any of the hundreds of thousands of Verizon retirees ask something about VZW's cell service and they have to respond with "I have no idea, because I dropped my VZW service right after I retired". It's very short sited.

@2spo - Do those Redpocket prices "include taxes & fees" like many other off discount providers, or is it $20-$30/month plus another $20+ in taxes and fees?

Redpocket is great. You can use this plan with 5GB/unlimited/unlimited with AT&T. You can get even cheaper paying annually. You can also choose any of the 4 big carriers depending on where you live (prices are slightly different)

Tracfone's rate plans are shown on their web site, and $15 gets you 500mb data and limited voice and text. That doesn't cut it for most people, and is not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison.

Still 25%

The Retiree Phone Program (RPP) reflects our continued commitment to streamline Verizon policies and programs and offer consistent discounts to our Wireless, Wireline Management and Corporate Management retirees. Eligible retirees can get a 25% discount on wireless service and most accessories if enrolled in the Employee Phone Program (EPP) at the time of their retirement.

The mobile is 40 per phone# if you have 4 phones. No additional taxes, unlimited data. Best deal I could find having 2 kids.

Switched to Tracfone. Paying 15 dollars a month. They are a wholesaler and use the Verizon network. I see no difference in service quality.

It’s true I know a retiree that they reduced his discount from 50% to 25%. Can this really save the company that much. How about we stop flying our dictator Hans around the world.

I am a wireless employee for less than 3 year but I believe any employee that work for this company 20+ years has the right to a 50% or even 75% discount for their life regardless of wireline or wireless

Left in first wave of VSP...

The first thing I did was switch to TMo.

Paying what I was paying Verizon with the 50% discount.

If you have money to waste stay with Verizon

Bottom Line if there is no discounnect there is no reason to stay. That should explain the future prospects.

I am really surprised that T-mobile has not come up with a new uncarrier move for former Verizon employees and retirees. All BS aside, the T-mobile plan is a much better option for consumers now, and especially for Verizon retirees.

I paid half the price of what Verizon offered their employees even with the employee discount. I use a company that's an MVNO for Sprint and Verizon. If I don't get a Sprint connection it rolls over to Verizon (no extra charge). With taxes I pay about $15 a month. Add dot com to Twigby for their website.

I left Verizon one year ago. They yanked my discounts ASAP. And I took my phones to T-Mobile. Don’t believe the best network hype. In the tri state area, T-Mobile is just as good or better.

I don't qualify for retiree (14 years), but I'm completely switching to another carrier if/when Veri$on removes my employee discounts.

Peace out, Hans.

Do you have 75 point or more. One point for age and one for years of service. Added together. And who cares. U can do better with other carriers. Your own company is ripping you off
