RIF based on your performance

Is that true?

My observation of previous RIFs: If the RIF is smaller then low performers are chosen first. If bigger, then all bets are off as there won't be enough low performers to make the numbers. What criteria is used in that situation is anyone's guess.

Do not, I repeat, do not for a single second believe that RIFs have any thing, I mean anything, to do with competence and performance - they do not and never have at oracle!!! It’s a question of your cost relative to others in the org and how good you are at kissing management a-- - high comp is bad; kissing a-- is considered good/ essential. Being more experienced and competency than your immediate manager is really, really bad for you, as it makes you a threat to their survival. Therefore the more competent you are the more likely you are to be RIF:ed in the crazy, upside down world of the 3 stooges, aka oracle. Get out!!!

RIF basis is simple - as mgmt wishes.

No other criteria, though lickers survive most here.

Performers those who pose challenge or have better skills than their managers are quickly shown door.

It also depends on your skill set. If you do something unique, then you are more likely to be safe. But if you are just any other developer sorry to say this but most likely under the radar. And yes if two product lines are merging, same development can be done by one instead of two.

Please add more details about layoffs.

Which department? which salary range? Visa or local candidates? and is it Engineers vs sales?

RIF is not based on performance. It's based on loyalty. Managers keep their thugs close by. Everyone else is expendable and replaceable.

Performance and RIF are not related. May be that if you have been with Oracle for many years and your package is more than other you are likely to be RIFed

I heard that remote workers have a higher chance of being laid off. They want more people to work on site.

If a company RIF their people by the spreadsheet, how would the company collect money from their customer? By spreadsheet too? Insane!

I had been b--ching for awhile now about not receiving a raise. Then, about a year ago, it hit me: the higher my salary, the more prone to being a lay-off candidate for “making too much” (spreadsheet lay-off) despite good performance. Therefore, the Oracle dilemma: be satisfied with lower pay while staying under the radar, or risk lay-off at higher pay. I know, I know, or “find a new job”, but I believe (for me) that ship has sailed since I’m 60.

Nope. My reviews were excellent and even got a raise and promotion before being RIF'ed. My salary was too high. Others called it a spreadsheet layoff.
