Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Cutting on the very infrastructure that made us successful

I’m no a person that has a business education, so maybe I don’t have a clue what I’m talking about, but I know the essence of the railroad if quite simple: the more you transport, the more money you earn. That being said, I can’t get it through my head how do they expect to achieve better numbers and bigger profits if they are destroying the very network (human and infrastructural) that made it possible to operate successfully. Less trains in the system, less workers, less yards, less support… that sound to me like this sentence should finish with less profits.

And to "Devastated in Nebraska"; Do you realize the devastation UP has caused to sooo many families over the past 18 months!? These floods are highly visible and apparent to us, but the devastation that's been taking place to our people is more behind the curtain, but just as deadly to these souls. UP should be commended for NOTHING!! That man in the field who spent several days helping the community will likely be the next one sent packing by Uncle Pete. You bet they'll capitalize on the feel good story though and take all the credit for relief efforts. Slimey slimey scummbags.

Does-exey. "Enjoy the flood!" WTF. Do you have any clue what is happening in Nebraska? Literally over half the State is under water.

Families have lost everything: homes, businesses, family farms including all their livestock. This is devastating and will take years to recover.

Hundreds of communities are cut off due to washed out roads and bridges. As c-appy as UP is being they are helping to evacuate people by using high rail vehicles. I commend UP for this.

Before you call me a troll, I was laid off.

I put quite a few years in at UPRR , I have had 2 jobs in 27 years and have 43 of employment in my entire work career .

I consider myself to be a loyal employee but after this layoff they can burn in hell.

I don't care if they live or die. I want to finish my career and get my retirement but trust them as much as I trust a cracked head with a 357. Piss off UP.

Enjoy the flood! I do feel bad for people but not for UP.

True, but once they s--- all the cash out of it, they will either merge, get a bail out and start it all over again when the stock prices are worthless!

This doesn’t makes sense because we (employees) are looking at this from an employees point of veiw and not from upper management or investors view. Short term it’s great for them but long term it’s not sustainable for the company.

I fully appreciate the horse and buggy whip analogy, but I’m not convinced PSR is to last year’s railroading as the automobile is to the horse and buggy. I’m convinced it’s just about greed and the railroad was doing pretty well without UP2020. I truly believe once they’ve s---ed out all the cash, they’ll move on and there’ll need to be a lot of rebuilding.

The horse and buggy whip guys had their day, but it's time to take them behind the barn and put them out of their misery.

It's not about profits or growing the company its being driven by the hedge funds. Stockholders and lance want their stocks to double. They can't add more freight so they are cutting man power to achieve this goal. Its greed plan and simple. Untill we fight back it will contuine. The young employess will be layed off and the ones close to retirement will be forced out.
