I saw a doctor today who sympathized with me and the Thomson situation. She has a friend who left a few years ago. She totally understands how miserable it is working there now. So even people on the street as it were know what's going on. The Jig Is Up

True that many of the Lead postings were a formality, that they knew whom they wanted in those slots. But for a few positions, they got harpooned because the intended/hoped-for applicant took the severance package instead. What they were offering as Lead, with additional adm. responsibilities and diminished or non-existent content-related work, was not more attractive than the package, especially for long-term employees, some of whom qualified for a full year of severance.

Agree with @1cde about about what it’s leaving. I’d like to add that in the Corporates and Commercial Excellence org chart it is mostly, maybe all, longtime TR people in the first three levels (President, VP, Leads - whatever they want to call it). They rely on McKinsey hence they are short on creativity and ideas and have been making the wrong decisions for years. You were encouraged to apply for those lead roles but 80% of the “openings” was a formality. They knew who they wanted in those roles. And guess what? It’s the same incompetent bunch. I’m over the moon after putting in my resignation yesterday.

Re: finding opportunity outside of TR — the grass can be greener, silly. It’s all dependent on your region, experience, and motivation, and there are certainly other factors, some beyond your immediate control.

What I left: An organization that dismissed data, research, and experience. I had to work with completely inane, incompetent, and insecure people (just a select few) who had no clue how to manage people or projects. Their only marketable skill seemed to be complaining and gossiping. Their only deliverable over the last 5 years was to take credit from work they didn’t do. Disagreeing with someone became an egregious and traitorous act. And worst of all: everyone walked on egg shells because they were afraid to be the whistleblower on piss poor culture.

Where I landed: A smaller tech company with a 6% salary increase and about half the responsibility but all of the opportunity for promotion and advancement. A company full of folks who handle criticism maturely and who work through disagreement together and in the open. I’m working on projects that I love and enjoy, and I feel fortunate, to be sure.

So go and research job postings and companies, ask friends, and be patient. Don’t expect handouts.

To the fellow who brought up Hillary out of the blue...you’ve got issues. That’s evident. Consider cognitive behavioral therapy and hopefully your health plan covers it.

Thomson Reuters has a misogynistic health plan with minimal coverage for females for pregnancy and miscarriage. You’ll get more coverage from voluntary sport injury than lying on a table bleeding from a miscarriage.

Health care providers know about it because they know you can’t pay your bill!!!

I am in MSP and both my dentist and general physician asked me how work was going last year. They either had friends or clients laid off in the last year or were at risk. It has become the norm in my dept. over the last several years to wait for both voluntary and involuntary layoffs. This time it feels a little different regarding the future.

The grass is greener. Trust me on this. Terrible management meaning there are no leaders at TR, in the decision making positions at least. The ones with the best ideas or who care the most do not have a voice and end up leaving.

The quit, see how it compares to unemployment and no paycheque. Those are your two options. Because if you think the grass is greener and you'll find work elsewhere(outside a mcJob), you are in for a rude awakening.
