Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Future severance reductions?

I heard today that future severances will be lower due to the cost of the voluntary buyouts - any truth to this?

AT&T, caps their severance payout at 6 months (50% max, 4%/year), Sprint is even worse, so why Verizon should offer a better package than their peers?

Obviously, all options are open. The most compelling reason for any company to offer a severance package is to avoid getting sued so VZ will have to offer something. Only 30 days of pay would probably inspire a lot of lawsuits.

But as for the VSP changing the payout for future packages, VZ already declared the cost for the VSP, something along the lines of $1.2 billion, IIRC. There's no finite pot of money that they are having to dip into to fund these. They take in at least $5 billion a month from wireless revenue alone. Revenue, not profit, obviously, but they can find another billion or two if it keeps folks from calling in the lawyers.

It's been a rumor for years that we'll go to 3 months notice and 30 days pay. Who knows when it will finally hit.

There is no plan at this time to reduce the standard severance from 35 weeks. Could that change in the future? Sure it could. VZ 2.0 is all about change.
